तावदभ्येत्य शार्दूलस्त्वरमाणोतिमायिकः ॥ स तस्य द्विजवर्य्यस्य मध्ये जग्राह तां वधूम् ॥ १६॥
Meanwhile the magical tiger approached him in a hurry He took the bride in the midst of that noble brahmin.
english translation
tAvadabhyetya zArdUlastvaramANotimAyikaH ॥ sa tasya dvijavaryyasya madhye jagrAha tAM vadhUm ॥ 16॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहे नाथनाथ हे कान्त हा शम्भो हा जगद्गुरो ॥ इति रोरूयमाणां तां व्याघ्रो जग्रास भीषणः ॥ १७॥
The terrible tiger grasped the woman even as she was lamenting—“O lord, O husband, O Śiva, O, preceptor of the universe.”
english translation
he nAthanAtha he kAnta hA zambho hA jagadguro ॥ iti rorUyamANAM tAM vyAghro jagrAsa bhISaNaH ॥ 17॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतावत्स राजा निशितैर्भल्लैर्व्याघ्रमताडयत् ॥ न स तैर्विव्यथे किंचिद्गिरीन्द्र इव वृष्टिभिः ॥ १८॥
The king struck the tiger with sharp arrows; but it was not at all affected by them. It stood like a lofty mountain, which is not affected by showers.
english translation
tAvatsa rAjA nizitairbhallairvyAghramatADayat ॥ na sa tairvivyathe kiMcidgirIndra iva vRSTibhiH ॥ 18॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस शार्दूलो महासत्त्वो राज्ञः स्वैरकृतव्यथः ॥ बलादाकृष्य तां नारीमपाक्रमत सत्वरः ॥ १९॥
The powerful tiger, not at all pained by the missiles of the king, seized the woman forcibly and ran away in a hurry.
english translation
sa zArdUlo mahAsattvo rAjJaH svairakRtavyathaH ॥ balAdAkRSya tAM nArImapAkramata satvaraH ॥ 19॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptव्याघ्रेणापहृतां नारीं वीक्ष्य विप्रोतिविस्मितः ॥ लौकिकीं गतिमाश्रित्य रुरोदाति मुहुर्मुहुः ॥ २०॥
On seeing his wife seized by the tiger, the brahmin was much bewildered and following the way of the world cried again and again.
english translation
vyAghreNApahRtAM nArIM vIkSya viprotivismitaH ॥ laukikIM gatimAzritya rurodAti muhurmuhuH ॥ 20॥
