तच्छुत्वा केशवाद्वाक्यं शूरास्त्रिदशयोनयः ॥ प्रवेष्टुकामाः पातालम्बभूवुर्विष्णुना सह ॥ ३१॥
On hearing these words of Viṣṇu the valorous gods became desirous of entering the nether regions along with Viṣṇu.
english translation
विचारमथ विज्ञाय तन्तदा भगवान्हर ॥ क्रोधाच्छापन्ददौ घोरं देवयोन्यष्टकस्य च ॥ ३२ ॥
Knowing their intention then, lord Śiva angrily cursed all the eight types of the gods.
english translation
हर उवाच ॥ वर्जयित्वा मुनिं शान्तं दानवान्वा मदंशजम् ॥ इदं यः प्रविशेत्स्थानं तस्य स्यान्निधनं क्षणात् ॥ ३३॥
Śiva said:— “Excepting a quiescent sage and the Dānavas born of my parts whoever enters this place shall die in a trice.”
english translation
श्रुत्वा वाक्यमिदं घोरं मनुष्यहितवर्धनम् ॥ प्रत्याख्यातास्तु रुद्रेण देवास्स्वगृहमा ययुः ॥ ३४ ॥
After hearing these terrible words which are conducive to the increase of the benefit of human beings, the gods thus restrained by Rudra returned to their own abodes.
english translation
एवं स्त्रीलः परो विष्णुश्शिवेन प्रतिशासितः ॥ स्वर्लोकमगमद्व्यास स्वास्थ्यं प्राप जगच्च तत् ॥ ३५ ॥
Thus Viṣṇu who was excessively indulgent in women was chastised by Śiva. O Vyāsa, he returned to heaven. The world attained normalcy.
