And he became the progenitor of a line. And in Manu's race have been born all human beings, who have, therefore, been called Manavas. And it is of Manu that all men including Brahmanas, Kshatriyas, and others have been descended, and are, therefore, all called Manavas.' ॥ 1-70-11 ॥

    स्वाध्याये नित्ययुक्तः स्याद् दैवे चैवैह कर्मणि । दैवकर्मणि युक्तो हि बिभर्तीदं चराचरम् ॥ ७५ ॥svAdhyAye nityayuktaH syAd daive caivaiha karmaNi । daivakarmaNi yukto hi bibhartIdaM carAcaram ॥ 75 ॥Let (every man) in this (second order, at least) daily apply himself to the private recitation of the Veda, and also to the performance of the offering to the gods; for he who is diligent in the performance of sacrifices, supports both the movable and the immovable creation.

    विवस्वतः सुतॊ जज्ञे यमॊ वैवस्वतः परभुः मार्तण्डश च यमस्यापि पुत्रॊ राजन्न अजायत ॥ १-७०-१० ॥vivasvataH sutò jajJe yamò vaivasvataH parabhuH mArtaNDaza ca yamasyApi putrò rAjanna ajAyata ॥ 1-70-10 ॥'And of Vivaswat was born the lord Yama. And Martanda (Vivaswat) also begat another son after Yama, gifted with great intelligence and named Manu.' ॥ 1-70-10 ॥

And he bestowed ten of his daughters on Dharma and thirteen on Kasyapa. And he gave twenty-seven to Chandra, who all indicate time.' ॥ 1-70-8 ॥
