    तान् बभाषे स्वभूः पुत्रान् प्रजाः सृजत पुत्रकाः । तन्नैच्छन्मोक्षधर्माणो वासुदेवपरायणाः ।। ३-१२-५ ।।tAn babhASe svabhUH putrAn prajAH sRjata putrakAH | tannaicchanmokSadharmANo vAsudevaparAyaNAH || 3-12-5 ||Brahmā spoke to his sons after generating them. “My dear sons,” he said, “now generate progeny.” But due to their being attached to Vāsudeva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they aimed at liberation, and therefore they expressed their unwillingness. ।। 3-12-5 ।।

    सनकं च सनन्दं च सनातनमथात्मभूः । सनत्कुमारं च मुनीन्निष्क्रियानूर्ध्वरेतसः ।। ३-१२-४ ।।sanakaM ca sanandaM ca sanAtanamathAtmabhUH | sanatkumAraM ca munInniSkriyAnUrdhvaretasaH || 3-12-4 ||In the beginning, Brahmā created four great sages named Sanaka, Sananda, Sanātana and Sanat-kumāra. All of them were unwilling to adopt materialistic activities because they were highly elevated due to their semen’s flowing upwards. ।। 3-12-4 ।।

    दृष्ट्वा पापीयसीं सृष्टिं नात्मानं बह्वमन्यत । भगवद्ध्यानपूतेन मनसान्यां ततोऽसृजत् ।। ३-१२-३ ।।dRSTvA pApIyasIM sRSTiM nAtmAnaM bahvamanyata | bhagavaddhyAnapUtena manasAnyAM tato'sRjat || 3-12-3 ||Seeing such a misleading creation as a sinful task, Brahmā did not feel much pleasure in his activity, and therefore he purified himself by meditation on the Personality of Godhead. Then he began another term of creation. ।। 3-12-3 ।।

    ससर्जाग्रेऽन्धतामिस्रमथ तामिस्रमादिकृत् । महामोहं च मोहं च तमश्चाज्ञानवृत्तयः ।। ३-१२-२ ।।sasarjAgre'ndhatAmisramatha tAmisramAdikRt | mahAmohaM ca mohaM ca tamazcAjJAnavRttayaH || 3-12-2 ||Brahmā first created the nescient engagements like self-deception, the sense of death, anger after frustration, the sense of false ownership, and the illusory bodily conception, or forgetfulness of one’s real identity. ।। 3-12-2 ।।

    मैत्रेय उवाच इति ते वर्णितः क्षत्तः कालाख्यः परमात्मनः । महिमा वेदगर्भोऽथ यथास्राक्षीन्निबोध मे ।। ३-१२-१ ।।maitreya uvAca iti te varNitaH kSattaH kAlAkhyaH paramAtmanaH | mahimA vedagarbho'tha yathAsrAkSInnibodha me || 3-12-1 ||Śrī Maitreya said: O learned Vidura, so far I have explained to you the glories of the form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His feature of kāla. Now you can hear from me about the creation of Brahmā, the reservoir of all Vedic knowledge. ।। 3-12-1 ।।

    तदाहुरक्षरं ब्रह्म सर्वकारणकारणम् । विष्णोर्धाम परं साक्षात्पुरुषस्य महात्मनः ।। ३-११-४१ ।।tadAhurakSaraM brahma sarvakAraNakAraNam | viSNordhAma paraM sAkSAtpuruSasya mahAtmanaH || 3-11-41 ||The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, is therefore said to be the original cause of all causes. Thus the spiritual abode of Viṣṇu is eternal without a doubt, and it is also the abode of Mahā-Viṣṇu, the origin of all manifestations. ।। 3-11-41 ।।

    दशोत्तराधिकैर्यत्र प्रविष्टः परमाणुवत् । लक्ष्यतेऽन्तर्गताश्चान्ये कोटिशो ह्यण्डराशयः ।। ३-११-४० ।।dazottarAdhikairyatra praviSTaH paramANuvat | lakSyate'ntargatAzcAnye koTizo hyaNDarAzayaH || 3-11-40 ||The layers or elements covering the universes are each ten times thicker than the one before, and all the universes clustered together appear like atoms in a huge combination. ।। 3-11-40 ।।

    विकारैः सहितो युक्तैर्विशेषादिभिरावृतः । आण्डकोशो बहिरयं पञ्चाशत्कोटि विस्तृतः ।। ३-११-३९ ।।vikAraiH sahito yuktairvizeSAdibhirAvRtaH | ANDakozo bahirayaM paJcAzatkoTi vistRtaH || 3-11-39 ||This phenomenal material world is expanded to a diameter of four billion miles, as a combination of eight material elements transformed into sixteen further categories, within and without, as follows. ।। 3-11-39 ।।
