प्र वे॒धसे॑ क॒वये॒ वेद्या॑य॒ गिरं॑ भरे य॒शसे॑ पू॒र्व्याय॑ । घृ॒तप्र॑सत्तो॒ असु॑रः सु॒शेवो॑ रा॒यो ध॒र्ता ध॒रुणो॒ वस्वो॑ अ॒ग्निः ॥ प्र वेधसे कवये वेद्याय गिरं भरे यशसे पूर्व्याय । घृतप्रसत्तो असुरः सुशेवो रायो धर्ता धरुणो वस्वो अग्निः ॥

sanskrit

I offer praise to Agni, the creator, the far-seeing, the adorable, the renowned, the first (of the gods); he who is propitiated by oblations, the strong, the giver of happiness, the possessor of riches, the receiver of oblations, the bestower of oblations.

english translation

ऋ॒तेन॑ ऋ॒तं ध॒रुणं॑ धारयन्त य॒ज्ञस्य॑ शा॒के प॑र॒मे व्यो॑मन् । दि॒वो धर्म॑न्ध॒रुणे॑ से॒दुषो॒ नॄञ्जा॒तैरजा॑ताँ अ॒भि ये न॑न॒क्षुः ॥ ऋतेन ऋतं धरुणं धारयन्त यज्ञस्य शाके परमे व्योमन् । दिवो धर्मन्धरुणे सेदुषो नॄञ्जातैरजाताँ अभि ये ननक्षुः ॥

sanskrit

They are detaining by sacrifice the true recipient (of offerings) in the most eminent plural ce of the ceremony, who brings together the leaders (of the rite), the unborn with the born, (or gods and men), as seated at the solemnity which is the stay of heaven.

english translation

R॒tena॑ R॒taM dha॒ruNaM॑ dhArayanta ya॒jJasya॑ zA॒ke pa॑ra॒me vyo॑man | di॒vo dharma॑ndha॒ruNe॑ se॒duSo॒ nRRJjA॒tairajA॑tA~ a॒bhi ye na॑na॒kSuH || Rtena RtaM dharuNaM dhArayanta yajJasya zAke parame vyoman | divo dharmandharuNe seduSo nRRJjAtairajAtA~ abhi ye nanakSuH ||

अ॒ङ्हो॒युव॑स्त॒न्व॑स्तन्वते॒ वि वयो॑ म॒हद्दु॒ष्टरं॑ पू॒र्व्याय॑ । स सं॒वतो॒ नव॑जातस्तुतुर्यात्सि॒ङ्हं न क्रु॒द्धम॒भित॒: परि॑ ष्ठुः ॥ अङ्होयुवस्तन्वस्तन्वते वि वयो महद्दुष्टरं पूर्व्याय । स संवतो नवजातस्तुतुर्यात्सिङ्हं न क्रुद्धमभितः परि ष्ठुः ॥

sanskrit

They who (present) to the chief (of the gods) the great food (of sacrifice), unattainable (by the rākṣasas), enjoy forms exempt from defect; may that new-born Agni scatter assembled (hosts); let them stand from around me as (deer avoid) an angry lion.

english translation

मा॒तेव॒ यद्भर॑से पप्रथा॒नो जनं॑जनं॒ धाय॑से॒ चक्ष॑से च । वयो॑वयो जरसे॒ यद्दधा॑न॒: परि॒ त्मना॒ विषु॑रूपो जिगासि ॥ मातेव यद्भरसे पप्रथानो जनंजनं धायसे चक्षसे च । वयोवयो जरसे यद्दधानः परि त्मना विषुरूपो जिगासि ॥

sanskrit

When, everywhere predominating, you cherish all men like a mother, and (are implored by all) to behold and to support them; and when, being detained, you mature every kind of food, then, multiform (Agni), you comprise (all beings) in yourself.

english translation

mA॒teva॒ yadbhara॑se paprathA॒no janaM॑janaM॒ dhAya॑se॒ cakSa॑se ca | vayo॑vayo jarase॒ yaddadhA॑na॒: pari॒ tmanA॒ viSu॑rUpo jigAsi || mAteva yadbharase paprathAno janaMjanaM dhAyase cakSase ca | vayovayo jarase yaddadhAnaH pari tmanA viSurUpo jigAsi ||

वाजो॒ नु ते॒ शव॑सस्पा॒त्वन्त॑मु॒रुं दोघं॑ ध॒रुणं॑ देव रा॒यः । प॒दं न ता॒युर्गुहा॒ दधा॑नो म॒हो रा॒ये चि॒तय॒न्नत्रि॑मस्पः ॥ वाजो नु ते शवसस्पात्वन्तमुरुं दोघं धरुणं देव रायः । पदं न तायुर्गुहा दधानो महो राये चितयन्नत्रिमस्पः ॥

Divine, Agni, may the (sacrificial) food, the vast yielder (of benefits to men), the sustainer of riches, support the utmost of your vigour; and do you considering (the means of acquiring) great riches, like a thief keeping concealed the article (he has stolen), be propitious to Atri.

english translation

vAjo॒ nu te॒ zava॑saspA॒tvanta॑mu॒ruM doghaM॑ dha॒ruNaM॑ deva rA॒yaH | pa॒daM na tA॒yurguhA॒ dadhA॑no ma॒ho rA॒ye ci॒taya॒nnatri॑maspaH || vAjo nu te zavasaspAtvantamuruM doghaM dharuNaM deva rAyaH | padaM na tAyurguhA dadhAno maho rAye citayannatrimaspaH ||
