त्यं सु मे॒षं म॑हया स्व॒र्विदं॑ श॒तं यस्य॑ सु॒भ्व॑: सा॒कमीर॑ते । अत्यं॒ न वाजं॑ हवन॒स्यदं॒ रथ॒मेन्द्रं॑ ववृत्या॒मव॑से सुवृ॒क्तिभि॑: ॥ त्यं सु मेषं महया स्वर्विदं शतं यस्य सुभ्वः साकमीरते । अत्यं न वाजं हवनस्यदं रथमेन्द्रं ववृत्यामवसे सुवृक्तिभिः ॥

sanskrit

Worship well that ram who makes heaven known, whom a hundred worshippers at once are assiduous in praising. I implore Indra with many prayers to ascend the car, which hastens like a fleet courser to the sacrificer for my protection.

english translation

tyaM su me॒SaM ma॑hayA sva॒rvidaM॑ za॒taM yasya॑ su॒bhva॑: sA॒kamIra॑te | atyaM॒ na vAjaM॑ havana॒syadaM॒ ratha॒mendraM॑ vavRtyA॒mava॑se suvR॒ktibhi॑: || tyaM su meSaM mahayA svarvidaM zataM yasya subhvaH sAkamIrate | atyaM na vAjaM havanasyadaM rathamendraM vavRtyAmavase suvRktibhiH ||

स पर्व॑तो॒ न ध॒रुणे॒ष्वच्यु॑तः स॒हस्र॑मूति॒स्तवि॑षीषु वावृधे । इन्द्रो॒ यद्वृ॒त्रमव॑धीन्नदी॒वृत॑मु॒ब्जन्नर्णां॑सि॒ जर्हृ॑षाणो॒ अन्ध॑सा ॥ स पर्वतो न धरुणेष्वच्युतः सहस्रमूतिस्तविषीषु वावृधे । इन्द्रो यद्वृत्रमवधीन्नदीवृतमुब्जन्नर्णांसि जर्हृषाणो अन्धसा ॥

When Indra, who delights in the sacrificial food, had slain the stream-obstructing Vṛtra, and was pouring down the waters, he stood firm amid the torrents like a mountain, and endowed with a thousand means of protecting (his votaries) increased in vigour.

स हि द्व॒रो द्व॒रिषु॑ व॒व्र ऊध॑नि च॒न्द्रबु॑ध्नो॒ मद॑वृद्धो मनी॒षिभि॑: । इन्द्रं॒ तम॑ह्वे स्वप॒स्यया॑ धि॒या मंहि॑ष्ठरातिं॒ स हि पप्रि॒रन्ध॑सः ॥ स हि द्वरो द्वरिषु वव्र ऊधनि चन्द्रबुध्नो मदवृद्धो मनीषिभिः । इन्द्रं तमह्वे स्वपस्यया धिया मंहिष्ठरातिं स हि पप्रिरन्धसः ॥

He who is victorious over his enemies, who is spread through the dewy (firmament), the root of happiness, who is exhilarated by the Soma him I invoke, the most bountiful Indra, along with learned priests, with a mind disposed to pious adoration, for he is the bestower of abundant food.

आ यं पृ॒णन्ति॑ दि॒वि सद्म॑बर्हिषः समु॒द्रं न सु॒भ्व१॒॑: स्वा अ॒भिष्ट॑यः । तं वृ॑त्र॒हत्ये॒ अनु॑ तस्थुरू॒तय॒: शुष्मा॒ इन्द्र॑मवा॒ता अह्रु॑तप्सवः ॥ आ यं पृणन्ति दिवि सद्मबर्हिषः समुद्रं न सुभ्वः स्वा अभिष्टयः । तं वृत्रहत्ये अनु तस्थुरूतयः शुष्मा इन्द्रमवाता अह्रुतप्सवः ॥

Tha Indra whom in heaven the libations sprinkled on the sacred grass replenish, as the kindred rivers hastening to it fill the ocean; that Indra whom the Maruts, the driers up of moisture, who are unobstructed, and of undistorted forms, attended as auxiliaries at the death of Vṛtra.

अ॒भि स्ववृ॑ष्टिं॒ मदे॑ अस्य॒ युध्य॑तो र॒घ्वीरि॑व प्रव॒णे स॑स्रुरू॒तय॑: । इन्द्रो॒ यद्व॒ज्री धृ॒षमा॑णो॒ अन्ध॑सा भि॒नद्व॒लस्य॑ परि॒धीँरि॑व त्रि॒तः ॥ अभि स्ववृष्टिं मदे अस्य युध्यतो रघ्वीरिव प्रवणे सस्रुरूतयः । इन्द्रो यद्वज्री धृषमाणो अन्धसा भिनद्वलस्य परिधीँरिव त्रितः ॥

His allies, exhilarated (by libations), preceded him, warring against the withholder of the rain, as rivers rush down declivities. Indra, animated by the sacrificial food, broke through the defences of Vala as did Trita through the coverings (of the well).

Verses 6-10
