शरीरलिङ्गैर उपसूचितॊ हय अयं; मूर्धाभिषिक्तॊ ऽयम इतीव मानसम समीपम आयाति च मे गतव्यथॊ; यथा गजस तामरसीं मदॊत्कटः ॥ ४-६-६ ॥
'The marks on his person clearly reveal him to be one whose locks have been anointed in the rite of coronation—such, indeed, is my belief. He approaches me without the least hesitation, like an elephant in rut approaching a bed of lotuses.' ॥ 4-6-6 ॥

वितर्कयन्तं तु नरर्षभस तदा; यिधिष्ठिरॊ ऽभयेत्य विराटम अब्रवीत सम्राड विजानात्व इह जीवितार्थिनं; विनष्ट सर्वस्वम उपागतं दविजम ॥ ४-६-७ ॥
'And as the king was pondering thus, that bull among men, Yudhishthira, came before Virata and addressed him, saying: “O mighty king, know me to be a Brahmana who, having lost all his possessions, has come to seek a means of livelihood under thy protection.”' ॥ 4-6-7 ॥

इहाहम इच्छामि तवानघान्तिके; वस्तुं यथा कामचरस तथा विभॊ तम अब्रवीत सवागतम इत्य अनन्तरं; राजा परहृष्टः परतिसंगृहाण च ॥ ४-६-८ ॥
'I wish, O sinless one, to dwell here at thy side, obedient to thy commands. O lord,” said Yudhishthira. The king, well-pleased, replied unto him, saying: “Thou art welcome. Accept, then, the position thou desirest.”' ॥ 4-6-8 ॥

कामेन ताताभिवदाम्य अहं तवां; कस्यासि राज्ञॊ विषयाद इहागतः गॊत्रं च नामापि च शंस तत्त्वतः; किं चापि शिल्पं तव विद्यते कृतम ॥ ४-६-९ ॥
'And having appointed that lion among kings to the post he had sought, King Virata, well-pleased, addressed him with affection, saying: “O child, I ask thee out of love— from the dominions of which king hast thou come? Tell me truly thy name and lineage, and what knowledge or skill thou possessest.”' ॥ 4-6-9 ॥

युधिष्ठिरस्यासम अहं पुरा सखा; वैयाघ्रपद्यः पुनर अस्मि बराह्मणः अक्षान परवप्तुं कुशलॊ ऽसमि देविता; कङ्केति नाम्नास्मि विराट विश्रुतः ॥ ४-६-१० ॥
'Yudhishthira said, “My name is Kanka, and I am a Brahmana of the Vaiyāghra lineage. I am skilled in the art of casting dice, and in former times, I was a companion of Yudhishthira.”' ॥ 4-6-10 ॥
