[वै] अथ संगम्य सर्वे तु कौरवाणां महारथाः अर्जुनं सहिता यत्ताः परत्ययुध्यन्त भारत ॥ ४-५७-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, "Then, O Bharata, all the great chariot-warriors of the Kurus, united, advanced to assail Arjuna from every side with all their might."' ॥ 4-57-1 ॥

[vai] atha saMgamya sarve tu kauravANAM mahArathAH arjunaM sahitA yattAH paratyayudhyanta bhArata ॥ 4-57-1 ॥

स सायकमयैर जालैः सर्वतस तान महारथान पराछादयद अमेयात्मा नीहार इव पर्वतान ॥ ४-५७-२ ॥

'But that hero of immeasurable soul enveloped them completely in a storm of arrows, as the morning mist envelops the mountains.' ॥ 4-57-2 ॥

sa sAyakamayaira jAlaiH sarvatasa tAna mahArathAna parAchAdayada ameyAtmA nIhAra iva parvatAna ॥ 4-57-2 ॥

'Shooting arrows with the utmost speed, the son of Pandu shone on the battlefield like the blazing sun at autumnal midday.' ॥ 4-57-5 ॥
