एहि कर्ण मया सार्धं परतिपद्यस्व सागरम परेक्षकाः कुरवः सर्वे भवन्तु सह सैनिकाः ॥ ४-५५-६ ॥
'Arjuna said: “Come, Karna, and contend with me here, as if crossing a mighty ocean together. Let all the Kurus, your spectators, be present with their troops to witness this duel.”' ॥ 4-55-6 ॥
english translation
[कर्ण] बरवीषि वाचा यत पार्थ कर्मणा तत समाचर अतिशेते हि वै वाचं कर्मेति परथितं भुवि ॥ ४-५५-७ ॥
'Karna replied: “Do thou, O Partha, make good in deed what thou speakest in words. The world knows well that thy words often exceed thy deeds.”' ॥ 4-55-7 ॥
english translation
यत तवया मर्षितं पूर्वं तद अशक्तेन मर्षितम इति गृह्णामि तत पार्थ तव दृष्ट्वापराक्रमम ॥ ४-५५-८ ॥
'Arjuna said: “What you once sought to provoke me with, O Karna, you were unable to accomplish. That very thing I now take up, having beheld thy prowess and daring.”' ॥ 4-55-8 ॥
english translation
धर्मपाशनिबद्धेन यदि ते मर्षितं पुरा तथैव बद्धम आत्मानम अबद्धम इव मन्यसे ॥ ४-५५-९ ॥
'If you have previously endured being bound by the snares of dharma, then even while bound, you consider yourself as if unbound.' ॥ 4-55-9 ॥
english translation
यदि तावद वनेवासा यथॊक्तश चरितस तवया तत तवं धर्मार्थवित कलिष्टः समयं भेत्तुम इच्छसि ॥ ४-५५-१० ॥
'If indeed you have lived in the forest as prescribed and conducted yourself accordingly, then why do you, who are learned in dharma and artha, wish to break the agreement while in distress?' ॥ 4-55-10 ॥
