उषिताः सम वनेवासं परतिकर्म चिकीर्षवः कॊपं नार्हसि नः कर्तुं सदा समरदुर्जय ॥ ४-५३-१६ ॥
'Our exile in the forest has been completed, and now we seek to avenge the wrongs we have suffered. Though you are invincible in battle, it does not become you, O sinless one, to harbor anger toward us.' ॥ 4-53-16 ॥
english translation
uSitAH sama vanevAsaM paratikarma cikIrSavaH kòpaM nArhasi naH kartuM sadA samaradurjaya ॥ 4-53-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअहं तु परहृते पूर्वं परहरिष्यामि ते ऽनघ इति मे वर्तते बुद्धिस तद भवान कर्तुम अर्हति ॥ ४-५३-१७ ॥
'I will not raise my hand against you unless you strike first—such is my vow. Now, act as you see fit.' ॥ 4-53-17 ॥
english translation
ahaM tu parahRte pUrvaM parahariSyAmi te 'nagha iti me vartate buddhisa tada bhavAna kartuma arhati ॥ 4-53-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽसमै पराहिणॊद दरॊणः शरान अधिकविंशतिम अप्राप्तांश चैव तान पार्थश चिच्छेद कृतहस्तवत ॥ ४-५३-१८ ॥
'Thus addressed, Drona swiftly shot more than twenty arrows at him. But Partha, master of quick reflexes, cut them off mid-air before they could reach him.' ॥ 4-53-18 ॥

tatò 'samai parAhiNòda daròNaH zarAna adhikaviMzatima aprAptAMza caiva tAna pArthaza ciccheda kRtahastavata ॥ 4-53-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः शरसहस्रेण रथपार्थस्य वीर्यवान अवाकिरत ततॊ दरॊणः शीघ्रम अस्त्रं विदर्शयन ॥ ४-५३-१९ ॥
'Seeing this, the powerful Drona, displaying remarkable dexterity and command over his weapons, covered Arjuna's chariot with a thousand arrows in a flash.' ॥ 4-53-19 ॥

tataH zarasahasreNa rathapArthasya vIryavAna avAkirata tatò daròNaH zIghrama astraM vidarzayana ॥ 4-53-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं परववृते युद्धं भारद्वाज किरीटिनॊः समं विमुञ्चतॊः संख्ये विशिखान दीप्ततेजसः ॥ ४-५३-२० ॥
'Filled with the desire to strike, Partha—the hero of immeasurable soul—rained down arrows, edged with stone and winged with Kanka bird feathers, upon his steeds of silvery whiteness. As the fierce battle between Drona and the crowned warrior began, both discharged blazing arrows, renowned for their prowess.' ॥ 4-53-20 ॥
