सप्तमीम अपराह्णे वै तथा नस तैः समाहितम अष्टम्यां पुनर अस्माभिर आदित्यस्यॊदयं परति ॥ ४-४२-११ ॥
'Our agreement was that the Trigartas would first, on the afternoon of the seventh lunar day, carry off the great wealth of cattle belonging to the Matsyas; and that we, at sunrise on the eighteenth day of the moon, would seize the remaining cattle when the king of the Matsyas set out in pursuit of those first taken.' ॥ 4-42-11 ॥

ते वा गावॊ न पश्यन्ति यदि व सयुः पराजिताः अस्मान वाप्य अतिसंधाय कुर्युर मत्स्येन संगतम ॥ ४-४२-१२ ॥
'It may be that the Trigartas are now driving away the cattle, or, having been defeated, are returning to us to negotiate with the king of the Matsyas.' ॥ 4-42-12 ॥
english translation
अथ वा तान उपायातॊ मत्स्यॊ जानपदैः सह सर्वया सेनया सार्धम अस्मान यॊद्धुम उपागतः ॥ ४-४२-१३ ॥
'Or perhaps, having routed the Trigartas, the Matsya king—at the head of his people and his entire host of fierce warriors—now appears on the field, advancing to launch a night attack upon us.' ॥ 4-42-13 ॥

तेषाम एव महावीर्यः कश चिद एव पुरःसरः अस्माञ जेतुम इहायातॊ मत्स्यॊ वापि सवयं भवेत ॥ ४-४२-१४ ॥
'It may be that some mighty leader among them is coming forward to vanquish us, or that the king of the Matsyas himself has arrived.' ॥ 4-42-14 ॥

यद्य एष राजा मत्स्यानां यदि बीभत्सुर आगतः सर्वैर यॊद्धव्यम अस्माभिर इति नः समयः कृतः ॥ ४-४२-१५ ॥
'But whether it is the king of the Matsyas or Vibhatsu, we are bound to meet him in battle. Such is our pledge.' ॥ 4-42-15 ॥
