अत्र चैतन महावीर्यं धनुः पार्थस्य गाण्डिवम एकं शतसहस्रेण संमितं राष्ट्रवर्धनम ॥ ४-३८-६ ॥

'There also lies the bow of immense power — Arjuna’s Gāṇḍīva — which alone equals many thousands of other bows in strength, and is capable of expanding the boundaries of a kingdom.' ॥ 4-38-6 ॥

atra caitana mahAvIryaM dhanuH pArthasya gANDivama ekaM zatasahasreNa saMmitaM rASTravardhanama ॥ 4-38-6 ॥

वयायामसहम अत्यर्थं तृणराजसमं महत सर्वायुधमहामात्रं शत्रुसंबाध कारकम ॥ ४-३८-७ ॥

'It can endure immense exertion, massive as a great heap of grass, yet light in the hand, capable of holding all kinds of mighty weapons, and of scattering the enemy when surrounded on all sides.' ॥ 4-38-7 ॥

[उत्तर] अस्मिन वृक्षे किलॊद्बद्धं शरीरम इति नः शरुतम तद अहं राजपुत्रः सन सपृशेयं पाणिना कथम ॥ ४-३८-९ ॥

'Uttara said: "We have heard that a corpse is tied to this tree. How, then, can I—born a prince—bring myself to touch it with my hands? "' ॥ 4-38-9 ॥

नैवंविधं मया युक्तम आलब्धुं कषत्रयॊनिना महता राजपुत्रेण मन्त्रयज्ञविदा सता ॥ ४-३८-१० ॥

'I am a Kshatriya by birth, the son of a great king, and ever observant of sacred mantras and vows. It is not proper for me to defile myself by handling a corpse.' ॥ 4-38-10 ॥
