तथैव तेषां तु बलानि तानि; करुद्धान्य अथान्यॊन्यम अभिद्रवन्ति गदासिखड्गैश च परश्वधैश च; परासैश च तीक्ष्णाग्रसुपीतधारैः ॥ ४-३२-६ ॥

'Then the hostile hosts furiously assailed one another with maces, swords, scimitars, battle-axes, and keen-edged bearded darts of excellent temper.' ॥ 4-32-6 ॥

tathaiva teSAM tu balAni tAni; karuddhAnya athAnyònyama abhidravanti gadAsikhaDgaiza ca parazvadhaiza ca; parAsaiza ca tIkSNAgrasupItadhAraiH ॥ 4-32-6 ॥

बलं तु मत्स्यस्य बलेन राजा; सर्वं तरिगर्ताधिपतिः सुशर्मा परमथ्य जित्वा च परसह्य मत्स्यं; विराटम ओजस्विनम अभ्यधावत ॥ ४-३२-७ ॥

'And king Susarman, lord of the Trigartas, having overwhelmed and routed the entire army of the Matsyas through his impetuous energy, rushed with force upon the mighty Virata himself.' ॥ 4-32-7 ॥

balaM tu matsyasya balena rAjA; sarvaM tarigartAdhipatiH suzarmA paramathya jitvA ca parasahya matsyaM; virATama ojasvinama abhyadhAvata ॥ 4-32-7 ॥

तौ निहत्य पृथग धुर्याव उभौ च पार्ष्णिसारथी विरथं मत्स्यराजानं जीवग्राहम अगृह्णताम ॥ ४-३२-८ ॥

'The two brothers, having separately slain Virata’s two horses, his charioteer, and the soldiers guarding his rear, seized him alive when he was left helpless and carless.' ॥ 4-32-8 ॥

tau nihatya pRthaga dhuryAva ubhau ca pArSNisArathI virathaM matsyarAjAnaM jIvagrAhama agRhNatAma ॥ 4-32-8 ॥

तम उन्मथ्य सुशर्मा तु रुदतीं वधुकाम इव सयन्दनं सवं समारॊप्य परययौ शीघ्रवाहनः ॥ ४-३२-९ ॥

'Then, tormenting him grievously—like a lustful man harassing a helpless woman—Susarman placed the vanquished Virata upon his own chariot and swiftly sped away from the battlefield.' ॥ 4-32-9 ॥

tama unmathya suzarmA tu rudatIM vadhukAma iva sayandanaM savaM samAròpya parayayau zIghravAhanaH ॥ 4-32-9 ॥

तस्मिन गृहीते विरथे विराटे बलवत्तरे पराद्रवन्त भयान मत्स्यास तरिगर्तैर अर्दिता भृशम ॥ ४-३२-१० ॥

'And when the mighty king of the Matsyas was thus taken captive, bereft of his chariot, the Matsya forces—assailed solely by the Trigartas—broke into panic and fled in all directions.' ॥ 4-32-10 ॥
