ततॊ विराटः परस्कन्द्य रथाद अथ सुशर्मणः गदाम अस्य परामृश्य तम एवाजघ्निवान बली स चचार गदापाणिर वृद्धॊ ऽपि तरुणॊ यथा ।। ४-३२-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'And thereupon, leaping down from Susarman’s chariot and seizing his mace, the powerful Virata rushed in pursuit of him. Though advanced in years, he moved about the field, mace in hand, like a vigorous youth.' ।। 4-32-31 ।।

english translation

tatò virATaH paraskandya rathAda atha suzarmaNaH gadAma asya parAmRzya tama evAjaghnivAna balI sa cacAra gadApANira vRddhò 'pi taruNò yathA || 4-32-31 ||

भीमस तु भीमसंकाशॊ रथात परस्कन्द्य कुण्डली तरिगर्तराजम आदत्त सिंहक्शुद्र मृगं यथा ।। ४-३२-३२ ।।

sanskrit

'Then Bhima, the son of Pandu, leapt down from his chariot with a calm resolve—as only he could do—and rushed forward to take Susarman's life. Intent on seizing the king of the Trigartas as he advanced, the mighty Bhimasena charged upon him like a lion rushing at a helpless deer.' ।। 4-32-32 ।।

bhImasa tu bhImasaMkAzò rathAta paraskandya kuNDalI tarigartarAjama Adatta siMhakzudra mRgaM yathA || 4-32-32 ||

तस्मिन गृहीते विरथे तरिगर्तानां महारथे अभज्यत बलं सर्वं तरैगर्तं तद्भयातुरम ।। ४-३२-३३ ।।

sanskrit

'Crushed by the sheer force of that punishment, the king of the Trigartas lost consciousness. And when the king, deprived of his chariot and captured thus, lay helpless, the entire Trigarta army, stricken with terror, broke and fled in all directions.' ।। 4-32-33 ।।

english translation

tasmina gRhIte virathe tarigartAnAM mahArathe abhajyata balaM sarvaM taraigartaM tadbhayAturama || 4-32-33 ||

निवर्त्य गास ततः सर्वाः पाण्डुपुत्रा महाबलाः अवजित्य सुशर्माणं धनं चादाय सर्वशः ।। ४-३२-३४ ।।

sanskrit

'Thereafter, the valiant sons of Pandu—modest, faithful to their vows, and relying solely on the strength of their arms—vanquished Susarman, recovered the stolen cattle and other wealth.' ।। 4-32-34 ।।

english translation

nivartya gAsa tataH sarvAH pANDuputrA mahAbalAH avajitya suzarmANaM dhanaM cAdAya sarvazaH || 4-32-34 ||

सवबाहुबलसंपन्ना हरीनिषेधा यतव्रताः संग्रामशिरसॊ मध्ये तां रात्रिं सुखिनॊ ऽवसन ।। ४-३२-३५ ।।

sanskrit

'Strong in the might of their own arms, firm in their vows and disciplined in restraint, they spent that night in comfort, right in the heart of the battlefield.' ।। 4-32-35 ।।
