[वै] ततः शांतनवॊ भीष्मॊ भरतानां पितामहः शरुतवान देशकालज्ञस तत्त्वज्ञः सर्वधर्मवित ॥ ४-२७-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said: "Then Bhishma, the grandsire of the Bharatas and son of Shantanu—well-versed in the Vedas, deeply acquainted with the proper conduct for every time and place, and a master of all codes of morality—after hearing Drona’s speech, praised the words of that noble preceptor."' ॥ 4-27-1 ॥
