[दरौ] यद इदं नर्तनागारं मत्स्यराजेन कारितम दिवात्र कन्या नृत्यन्ति रात्रौ यान्ति यथा गृहम ॥ ४-२१-१६ ॥
'Draupadi said: "When night falls, go to the dancing hall built by the king of the Matsyas—where maidens dance by day and return to their homes by night."' ॥ 4-21-16 ॥

तमिस्रे तत्र गच्छेथा गन्धर्वास तन न जानते तत्र दॊषः परिहृतॊ भविष्यति न संशयः ॥ ४-२१-१७ ॥
'The Gandharvas are unaware of that place. There, without doubt, we shall escape all blame.' ॥ 4-21-17 ॥

[वै] तम अर्थं परतिजल्पन्त्याः कृष्णायाः कीचकेन ह दिवसार्धं समभवन मासेनैव समं नृप ॥ ४-२१-१८ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana continued: Reflecting on her conversation with Kichaka, that half day felt to Krishna like a whole month.' ॥ 4-21-18 ॥

कीचकॊ ऽथ गृहं गत्वा भृशं हर्षपरिप्लुतः सैरन्ध्री रूपिणं मूढॊ मृत्युं तं नावबुद्धवान ॥ ४-२१-१९ ॥
'Kichaka returned home, overwhelmed with joy and passion, so blinded by his infatuation with the fair Sairindhri that he was unaware of the death that awaited him.' ॥ 4-21-19 ॥

गन्धाभरण माल्येषु वयासक्तः स विशेषतः अलं चकार सॊ ऽऽतमानं स तवरः काममॊहितः ॥ ४-२१-२० ॥
'Driven mad by desire, he quickly adorned himself with perfumes, garlands, and jewels.' ॥ 4-21-20 ॥
