न तव एतान युध्यमानां वै हनिष्यामि कथं चन तथैतान पातयिष्यामि यथा यास्यन्ति न कषयम ॥ ४-२-६ ॥

'But I shall not take the life of any among them. I will bring them down with such skill that none shall be harmed.' ॥ 4-2-6 ॥

english translation

na tava etAna yudhyamAnAM vai haniSyAmi kathaM cana tathaitAna pAtayiSyAmi yathA yAsyanti na kaSayama ॥ 4-2-6 ॥

आरालिकॊ गॊविकर्ता सूपकर्ता नियॊधकः आसं युधिष्ठिरस्याहम इति वक्ष्यामि पृच्छतः ॥ ४-२-७ ॥

'And if questioned about my past, I shall say, ‘Formerly, I was the cook and wrestler in the service of Yudhishthira.’ Thus, O king, shall I sustain myself in the city of Virata.' ॥ 4-2-7 ॥

ArAlikò gòvikartA sUpakartA niyòdhakaH AsaM yudhiSThirasyAhama iti vakSyAmi pRcchataH ॥ 4-2-7 ॥

आत्मानम आत्मना रक्षंश चरिष्यामि विशां पते इत्य एतत परतिजानामि विहरिष्याम्य अहं यथा ॥ ४-२-८ ॥

'Safeguarding myself by my own strength, I shall live thus, O king of men. This is my solemn pledge—such shall be my way of life.' ॥ 4-2-8 ॥

यम अग्निर बराह्मणॊ भूत्वा समागच्छन नृणां वरम दिधक्षुः खाण्डवं दावं दाशार्ह सहितं पुरा ॥ ४-२-९ ॥

'And what role shall be taken up by that mighty scion of the Kurus—Dhananjaya, the son of Kunti— foremost among men, long-armed and invincible in battle, before whom, while he once dwelt with Krishna, even the divine Agni appeared in the guise of a Brahmana, desiring to consume the forest of Khandava?' ॥ 4-2-9 ॥

yama agnira barAhmaNò bhUtvA samAgacchana nRNAM varama didhakSuH khANDavaM dAvaM dAzArha sahitaM purA ॥ 4-2-9 ॥

महाबलं महाबाहुम अजितं कुरुनन्दनम सॊ ऽयं किं कर्म कौन्तेयः करिष्यति धनंजयः ॥ ४-२-१० ॥

'This mighty-armed, invincible son of Kunti—Dhananjaya, the pride of the Kurus— what task, then, shall he perform in the court of King Virata?' ॥ 4-2-10 ॥
