'And, O Bharata, the wise Dhaumya, with his passions fully controlled, holding Kuśa grass pointed towards the southwest, walks ahead, chanting the Sāmaveda hymns that invoke Yama.' ।। 2-71-21 ।।
'O king, this learned Brahmana signifies that when the Bharatas fall in battle, the priests of the Kurus will similarly chant the Soma mantras for the departed souls.' ।। 2-71-22 ।।
'And the citizens, overwhelmed with deep sorrow, repeatedly cry out, 'Alas, alas! Behold, our protectors are leaving us! Shame on the Kuru elders, who, driven solely by greed, have foolishly banished the heirs of Pandu as if they were mere children.'' ।। 2-71-23 ।।
एवम आकार लिङ्गैस ते वयवसायं मनॊगतम कथयन्तः सम कौन्तेया वनं जग्मुर मनस्विनः ।। २-७१-२४ ।।
'Alas, separated from the son of Pandu, we shall be left without a leader. What affection can we have for the wicked and greedy Kurus? Thus, O king, the sons of Kunti, endowed with great resolve, have departed, conveying their intentions through gestures and signs.' ।। 2-71-24 ।।
