सामान्येन तु षोढा चन्द्रदशा कथ्यते मणित्थाद्यैः। शुक्लस्य प्रथमतिथेरारभ्यारोहिणी दशा शशिनः॥१॥
The Moon's Dasa aud its effects are generally classified in six ways by sage Manittha and others. The Dasa is declared to be waxing or increasing in the case of the Moon from the first lunar day onwards.

कृष्णा द्वितिथिप्रभृतिकदर्शान्ता चावरोहिणीन्दुदशा। जलधिजलोत्थितिकाले नृृणां सूतौ दशा शशाङ्कस्य॥२॥
From the Dwitiya Tithi in the dark half (16th lunar day) till the end of the New Moon, (the birth may happen at any time within this interval) the Moon's Dasa is known as अवरोहिणी or descending. Should a birth take place at a time when the waves of the ocean are rising,

आरोहिणीति विदिता विपरीता सावरोहिणी ख्याता। नीचाच्च्युतस्य हि दशा हिमगोरारोहिणी कथिता॥३॥
it is termed आरोहिणी or ascending. If it be contrarywise, it is called अवरोहिणी. Where the Moon has left his नीच or depression, then also her Dasa is known as आरोहिणी.

तुङ्गाच्च्युतस्यं तु दशाऽवरोहिणी निगदिता शशिनः। रोहावरोहभेदः सम्यक् त्रिविधः पुरातनैः कथितः॥४॥
If at a birth the Moon has fallen from her exaltation, her Dasa is termed अवरोहिणी- descending. The difference between आरोह and अवरोह is distinguished in three ways by the ancients.

आरोहत्रययुक्ता चन्द्रदशा सर्वसिद्धिकरी। आरोहदशारूढो मर्त्यः स्यात्सर्वलोकविख्यातः॥५॥
There are three kinds of आरोह (Aroha) in the Moon's Dasa well-known to all. They bring on success in everything.
