Various kinds of avapīḍa (nasal drops prepared from expressed juice or paste of herbs) and sarṣapa (mustard seeds) combined with unctuous substances (fats) should be used. Massage (abhyanga) with kaṭu taila (mustard oil) should be administered, and its powder (mustard seed powder) should be insufflated (blown) into the nose.
The urine, bile, feces, hair, nails/claws, and skin of the jackal, porcupine, owl, leech (jalauka), bull, and goat should be utilized to perform fumigation (dhupa), inhalation of medicated smoke (dhuma), eye salve (anjana), oil massage (abhyanga), warm paste application (pradeha), and therapeutic pouring of liquids (parishechana).
In insanity dominated by Vata and Kapha, the patient should be constantly fumigated with highly putrid (foul-smelling) flesh of dogs, cows, and fish. Generally, in insanity dominated by Pitta,
तिक्तकं जीवनीयं च सर्पिः स्नेहश्च मिश्रकः । शीतानि चान्नपानानि मधुराणि लघूनि च ॥ ४५ ॥
the administration of Tiktaka Ghrita, Jivaniya Ghrita, or Mishraka Sneha (mixed fats) is highly praised, along with foods and drinks that are cooling, sweet, and light to digest.
