मर्मोपतापात् सम्मोहादयनानां विघट्टनात् । तृष्णातियोगाद्वेगानां विषमं च प्रवर्तनात् ॥ ४६ ॥
It arises from the affliction or disease of vital organs (marmas like the heart, head, or bladder), loss of consciousness, severe injury or blockage of the channels and sense organs, profound thirst, and the improper or forced elimination of natural bodily urges.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptआशु चाग्निबलभ्रंशादतो बाह्यं विपर्ययात् । तत्र वातात्परीसर्पो वातज्वरसमव्यथः ॥ ४७ ॥
It is also characterized by a quick destruction of digestive strength (agni-bala). The external type of Visarpa arises from causes opposite to the above. In the herpes caused by vata, the symptoms and pain are similar to those of Vatajvara (Vata fever), in addition to the swelling.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptशोफस्फुरणनिस्तोदभेदायामार्तिहर्षवान् । पित्ताद्द्रुतगतिः पित्तज्वरलिङ्गोऽतिलोहितः ॥ ४८ ॥
It presents with throbbing, intermittent, piercing, dilating, cutting, and tingling types of pain due to the Vata Dosha. In Visarpa caused by pitta, the spreading is exceptionally quick, features symptoms similar to Pittajwara, and the area is intensely red.

In that caused by kapha, there is itching, an unctuous/greasy texture, and symptoms similar to Kaphajwara. When neglected, each kind develops eruptive blebs or vesicles showing the symptoms of their respective doshas.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptते पक्वभिन्नाः स्वं स्वं च बिभ्रति व्रणलक्षणम् । वातपित्ताज्ज्वरच्छर्दिमूर्छातीसारतृड्भ्रमैः ॥ ५० ॥
These eruptions burst after ripening (suppuration), leading to ulcers (vrana) having their own respective symptoms. Agni Visarpa arises from the joint combination of vata and pitta, and is accompanied by fever, vomiting, fainting, diarrhea, thirst, and dizziness .
