विण्मूत्रशुक्रोपहतमलवद्वस्त्रसङ्करात् । विषवृक्षानिलस्पर्शाद्गरयोगावचूर्णनात् ॥ ४१ ॥
It is also caused by contact with excreta, urine, or semen, or by clothes contaminated by these; or by the touch of poisonous trees, gas, smoke, or poisonous fumes, and the rubbing or dusting of artificial/concocted poisons (gara visha).

hk transliteration by Sanscriptमृदुश्चलोऽवलम्बी च शीघ्रो दाहरुजाकरः । नवोऽनुपद्रवः शोफः साध्योऽसाध्यः पुरेरितः ॥ ४२ ॥
Such a poisonous swelling is soft, movable, drooping down, quick to manifest, and causes a burning sensation and pain. A swelling which is of recent onset and free of complications is curable (sadhya), whereas those forms described previously are incurable (asadhya). Thus ends the diagnosis of edema/dropsy.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ विसर्पनिदानम् । स्यात् विसर्पो अभिघात अन्तैर्दोषै: दूष्यैश्च शोफवत् । त्र्यधिष्ठानं च तं प्राहुर्बाह्यान्तरुभयाश्रयात् ॥ ४३ ॥
Thus begins Visarpa Nidanam (Diagnosis of Herpes/Erysipelas). Visarpa—a spreading skin disease—is similar in respect of its doshas, dushyas (vitiated tissues), and kinds to shopha, ending with the traumatic (abhighataja) variety. Its place of manifestation is said to be threefold—external (bahya), internal (antara), and both (ubhaya);

atha visarpanidAnam । syAt visarpo abhighAta antairdoSai: dUSyaizca zophavat । tryadhiSThAnaM ca taM prAhurbAhyAntarubhayAzrayAt ॥ 43 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथोत्तरं च दुःसाध्या: ।तत्र दोषा यथायथम् । प्रकोपणैः प्रकुपिता विशेषेण विदाहिभिः ॥ ४४ ॥
these are increasingly difficult to cure in their succeeding order. The doshas getting aggravated by their respective causes—especially so by foods and drinks that cause a burning sensation (vidahi) .

yathottaraM ca duHsAdhyA: ।tatra doSA yathAyatham । prakopaNaiH prakupitA vizeSeNa vidAhibhiH ॥ 44 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेहे शीघ्रं विसर्पन्ति तेऽन्तरन्तःस्थिता बहिः । बहिःस्था द्वितये द्विस्था विद्यात् तत्रान्तराश्रयम् ॥ ४५ ॥

Those localized inside spread to all the internal parts; those localized outside spread to all the external parts; and those localized in both spread to all parts, both internal and external.
