अथातः स्वभावविप्रतिपत्तिमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ॥१॥

Now we shall discourse on the Chapter which treats of the prognosis based on the perversion of the external appearances of the body (Svabhava-vipratipatti-adhyaya).

स्वभावसिद्धानां शरीरैकदेशानामन्यभावित्वं मरणाय । तद्यथा- शुक्लानां कृष्णत्वं, कृष्णानां शुक्लता, रक्तानामन्यवर्णत्वं, स्थिराणां मृदुत्वं , मृदूनां स्थिरता, चलानामचलत्वं, अचलानां चलता, पृथूनां सङ्क्षिप्तत्वं, सङ्क्षिप्तानां पृथुता, दीर्घाणां ह्रस्वत्वं, ह्रस्वानां दीर्घता, अपतनधर्मिणां पतनधर्मित्वं , पतनधर्मिणामपतनधर्मित्वमकस्मात्, शैत्यौष्ण्यस्नैग्ध्यरौक्ष्यप्रस्तम्भवैवर्ण्यावसादनं चाङ्गानाम् ॥३॥

The natural deviations in any part of the body that indicate fatality are as follows: The blackness of a part which is naturally white, or the whiteness of a black part; The change of a naturally red part to another color, or the hardness of a soft part and vice versa; The softening of a hard part and vice versa; The sudden fixation of a movable part or the movement of a fixed part; The contraction of an extended part or the expansion of a contracted part; The sudden elongation of a short part or the shortening of a long part; The sudden drooping of a part which does not naturally droop, and vice versa; A sudden increase or decrease in the natural temperature of any part or organ, as well as changes in glossiness, roughness, numbness, discoloration, weakness, or weariness.

The following are signs that indicate a fatal condition based on deviations or abnormalities in the body: Any part of the body showing abnormal or inconsistent characteristics, such as a garment appearing misplaced or dislocated, or the appearance of symptoms without a clear cause; Abnormalities such as the appearance of veins or spots on the forehead or nose, sweat on the forehead in the morning, or excessive tearing without eye disease; Abnormalities such as visible yellowish or reddish patches, or an increase in the volume of urine and feces; Symptoms such as pain in the chest or breast, hollow feeling in the abdomen, changes in body temperature, or excessive loss of weight; Loss of voice, pale patches appearing on the body, or the presence of abnormal changes in the teeth, mouth, or nails; The presence of symptoms like weakness, excessive thirst, or abnormal appetite; Symptoms of severe cough, vomiting, or extreme debilitation with a foul-smelling discharge; Abnormal behavior, such as falling or becoming immobilized, or pain and discomfort due to a fall or injury; Other indicators include unsteady movements, inability to digest food, or any change in the natural condition of the body.

भवन्ति चात्र- चिकित्स्यमानः सम्यक् च विकारो योऽभिवर्धते । प्रक्षीणबलमांसस्य लक्षणं तद्गतायुषः ॥५॥

In this context, the following is a sign of a patient whose condition is likely to lead to a shortened lifespan: When a patient, who is being treated correctly, shows a progression of the disease, especially when accompanied by reduced strength and emaciation of tissues, it indicates a serious prognosis and a reduced lifespan.
