A pungent, sharp, or fishy smell of the ulcer indicates the influence of deranged Vayu, Pitta, or Kapha. An ulcer with a smell of iron (loha-gandhi) is caused by vitiated blood. An ulcer with mixed odors is associated with the derangement of multiple doshas.
