कटुस्तीक्ष्णश्च विस्रश्च गन्धस्तु पवनादिभिः | लोहगन्धिस्तु रक्तेन व्यामिश्रः सान्निपातिकः ||९||

A pungent, sharp, or fishy smell of the ulcer indicates the influence of deranged Vayu, Pitta, or Kapha. An ulcer with a smell of iron (loha-gandhi) is caused by vitiated blood. An ulcer with mixed odors is associated with the derangement of multiple doshas.

english translation

कटु, तीक्ष्ण, या मछली जैसी गंध वाले अल्सर का संकेत होता है कि वात, पित्त, या कफ विकृत हो गए हैं। लोहे जैसी गंध वाला अल्सर विकृत रक्त का परिणाम है। मिश्रित गंध वाला अल्सर कई दोषों के विकृत होने को दर्शाता है।
