The essence of food, which is derived from the combination of the five elements, the four types, the six tastes, and the different potencies (either twofold or eightfold), when fully digested, becomes a subtle essence called "Rasa" (nutritive fluid). The heart is its location, and from there, it enters 24 arteries—ten ascending, ten descending, and four moving transversely—nourishing, supporting, and sustaining the entire body every day through invisible actions. As this Rasa circulates throughout the body, its path is inferred by observing changes in its quantity and quality. Thus, one must inquire: "Is this Rasa cooling or heating in nature?" This is answered: Since it flows smoothly and provides lubrication, nourishment, sustenance, and support, it is understood to be of a cooling (Soma) nature.
