अथ सुखोपविष्टः सुमना ऋज्वधोदृष्टिरतन्द्रितः स्नेहाक्तदीप्ताग्रां वर्तिं नेत्रस्रोतसि प्रणिधाय धूमं पिबेत् ||६||

Now, seated comfortably, with a cheerful mind, a straight gaze, and undistracted, let the person apply the prepared smoke by placing the wick into the eye channel and inhaling the smoke.

मुखेन तं पिबेत् पूर्वं नासिकाभ्यां ततः पिबेत् | मुखपीतं मुखेनैव वमेत् पीतं च नासया ||७||

sanskrit

First, let him drink it through the mouth; then let him inhale it through the nostrils. What has been drunk through the mouth should be vomited out through the mouth, and what has been inhaled through the nostrils should be expelled through the nostrils.

Specifically, the practical smoke should be inhaled through the nose, the oily smoke through both the mouth and nostrils, and the purgative smoke should be taken through the nostrils alone, while the other two can be taken through the mouth.

तत्र प्रायोगिके वर्तिं व्यपगतशरकाण्डां निवातातपशुष्कामङ्गारेष्ववदीप्य नेत्रमूलस्रोतसि प्रयुज्य धूममाहरेति ब्रूयात्; एवं स्नेहनं वैरेचनिकं च कुर्यादिति | इतरयोर्व्यपेतधूमाङ्गारे स्थिरे समाहिते शरावे प्रक्षिप्य वर्तिं मूलच्छिद्रेणान्येन शरावेण पिधाय तस्मिन् छिद्रे नेत्रमूलं संयोज्य धूममासेवेत, प्रशान्ते धूमे वर्तिमवशिष्टां प्रक्षिप्य पुनरपि धूमं पाययेदादोषविशुद्धेः; एष धूमपानोपायविधिः ||१०||

There, for practical purposes, one should instruct to take the smoke by using the wick that is cleared of the reed, and applied to the root channel of the eye, to use the smoke. Thus, one should also apply oily smoke and purgative smoke. For the other two types of smoke, after placing them in stable and concentrated reed vessels, one should cover it with another reed that has a hole at the base, and in that hole, one should connect the root of the eye and use the smoke. When the smoke is calm, the remaining wick should be placed back and the smoke should be consumed without any defects. This is the method for consuming smoke.
