The nine kinds of abscesses (Pidakas), such as Saravika, etc., have been described before. Of these abscesses, those that appear in a strong person but are small in size, affecting (only) the skin and the flesh, soft to the touch, slightly painful, easily suppurative, and after some time bursting, are curable.

Patients suffering from Prameha and afflicted with the above kinds of abscesses (Pidakas) should be treated as follows: Measures, such as fastings (Apatarpana), herbal decoctions, and the urine of a she-goat, should be employed in the incubative stage of the disease. If the patient continues to consume sweet articles of food, the urine, perspiration, and sputum soon acquire a sweetish taste, leading to the full manifestation of Prameha. In this situation, the patient’s system should be cleansed with both emetics and purgatives. If these measures are not taken, the aggravated Doshas of the body increase in intensity and tend to vitiate the flesh and the blood, producing an inflammatory swelling or leading to other distressing conditions. In such cases, venesection and the aforementioned remedies should be used. If the swelling increases in size, accompanied by excessive pain and burning sensation, surgical interventions and other remedial measures related to abscesses should be employed. If not addressed, the pus can penetrate deeper tissues, creating large cavities and rendering the abscess incurable. Therefore, Prameha must be treated at its very outset.
