ममायं न तवेत्युच्चैस्तस्मिन् विवदमानयोः । पप्रच्छुरृषयो देवा नैवोचे व्रीडिता तु सा ।। ९-१४-११ ।।

sanskrit

Fighting again broke out between Bṛhaspati and the moon-god, both of whom claimed, “This is my child, not yours!” All the saints and demigods present asked Tārā whose child the newborn baby actually was, but because she was ashamed she could not immediately answer. ।। 9-14-11 ।।

english translation

फिर से बृहस्पति और सोम के बीच झगड़ा होने लगा क्योंकि दोनों दावा कर रहे थे, “यह मेरा पुत्र है, तुम्हारा नहीं है।” वहाँ पर उपस्थित सारे ऋषियों तथा देवताओं ने तारा से पूछा कि यह नवजात शिशु वास्तव में किसका है, किन्तु वह लज्जित होने के कारण तुरन्त कुछ भी उत्तर न दे पाई। ।। ९-१४-११ ।।

कुमारो मातरं प्राह कुपितोऽलीकलज्जया । किं न वोचस्यसद्वृत्ते आत्मावद्यं वदाशु मे ।। ९-१४-१२ ।।

sanskrit

The child then became very angry and demanded that his mother immediately tell the truth. “You unchaste woman,” he said, “what is the use of your unnecessary shame? Why do you not admit your fault? Immediately tell me about your faulty behavior.” ।। 9-14-12 ।।

english translation

तब बालक अत्यन्त क्रुद्ध हुआ और उसने अपनी माता से तुरन्त सच-सच बतलाने के लिए कहा, “हे दुराचारिणी! तुम्हारे द्वारा यह लज्जा व्यर्थ है। तुम अपने दोष को स्वीकार क्यों नहीं कर लेती? तुम मुझसे अपने दोषी चरित्र के विषय में बतलाओ।” ।। ९-१४-१२ ।।

ब्रह्मा तां रह आहूय समप्राक्षीच्च सान्त्वयन् । सोमस्येत्याह शनकैः सोमस्तं तावदग्रहीत् ।। ९-१४-१३ ।।

sanskrit

Lord Brahmā then brought Tārā to a secluded place, and after pacifying her he asked to whom the child actually belonged. She replied very slowly, “This is the son of Soma, the moon-god.” Then the moon-god immediately took charge of the child. ।। 9-14-13 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् ब्रह्माजी तारा को एकान्त में ले गये और सान्त्वना देने के बाद उससे पूछा कि वास्तव में यह पुत्र किसका है। उसने धीमे से उत्तर दिया “यह सोम का है।” तब सोम ने तुरन्त ही उस बालक को स्वीकार कर लिया। ।। ९-१४-१३ ।।

तस्यात्मयोनिरकृत बुध इत्यभिधां नृप । बुद्ध्या गम्भीरया येन पुत्रेणापोडुराण्मुदम् ।। ९-१४-१४ ।।

sanskrit

O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, when Lord Brahmā saw that the child was deeply intelligent, he gave the child the name Budha. The moon-god, the ruler of the stars, enjoyed great jubilation because of this son. ।। 9-14-14 ।।

english translation

हे महाराज परीक्षित, जब ब्रह्माजी ने देखा कि वह बालक अत्यधिक बुद्धिमान है तो उन्होंने उसका नाम बुध रख दिया। इस पुत्र के कारण नक्षत्रों के राजा सोम ने अत्यधिक हर्ष का अनुभव किया। ।। ९-१४-१४ ।।

ततः पुरूरवा जज्ञे इलायां य उदाहृतः । तस्य रूपगुणौदार्यशीलद्रविणविक्रमान् ।। ९-१४-१५ ।।

Thereafter, from Budha, through the womb of Ilā, a son was born named Purūravā, who was described in the beginning of the Ninth Canto. When his beauty, personal qualities, magnanimity, behavior, wealth and power ।। 9-14-15 ।।

तत्पश्चात् इला के गर्भ से बुध को पुरुरवा नामक पुत्र की प्राप्ति हुई जिसका वर्णन नवम स्कन्ध के प्रारम्भ में किया जा चुका है। जब नारद ने इन्द्र के दरबार में पुरुरवा के सौन्दर्य, गुण, उदारता, आचरण, ऐश्वर्य तथा शक्ति ।। ९-१४-१५ ।।
