त्वं वा इदं सदसदीश भवांस्ततोऽन्यो माया यदात्मपरबुद्धिरियं ह्यपार्था । यद्यस्य जन्म निधनं स्थितिरीक्षणं च तद्वै तदेव वसुकालवदष्टितर्वोः ।। ७-९-३१ ।।

My dear Lord, O Supreme Personality of Godhead, the entire cosmic creation is caused by You, and the cosmic manifestation is an effect of Your energy. Although the entire cosmos is but You alone, You keep Yourself aloof from it. The conception of “mine and yours,” is certainly a type of illusion [māyā] because everything is an emanation from You and is therefore not different from You. Indeed, the cosmic manifestation is nondifferent from You, and the annihilation is also caused by You. This relationship between Your Lordship and the cosmos is illustrated by the example of the seed and the tree, or the subtle cause and the gross manifestation. ।। 7-9-31 ।।

हे भगवान्, हे परमेश्वर, यह समग्र सृष्टि आपके द्वारा उत्पन्न है और विराट जगत आपकी शक्ति का परिणाम है। यद्यपि सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड आपके अतिरिक्त अन्य कुछ नहीं है फिर भी आप अपने को उससे पृथक् रखते हैं। ‘मेरा’ तथा ‘तुम्हारा’ की धारणा निश्चय ही एक प्रकार का मोह (माया) है, क्योंकि प्रत्येक वस्तु आपसे उद्भूत होने के कारण आपसे भिन्न नहीं है। निस्सन्देह, विराट जगत आपसे अभिन्न है और संहार भी आपके द्वारा ही किया जाता है। आप तथा ब्रह्माण्ड के बीच का यह सम्बन्ध बीज तथा वृक्ष अथवा सूक्ष्म कारण तथा स्थूल अभिव्यक्ति के उदाहरण के द्वारा प्रस्तुत किया जाता है। ।। ७-९-३१ ।।

O my Lord, O Supreme Personality of Godhead, after the annihilation the creative energy is kept in You, who appear to sleep with half-closed eyes. Actually, however, You do not sleep like an ordinary human being, for You are always in a transcendental stage, beyond the creation of the material world, and You always feel transcendental bliss. As Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, You thus remain in Your transcendental status, not touching material objects. Although You appear to sleep, this sleeping is distinct from sleeping in ignorance. ।। 7-9-32 ।।

हे परमेश्वर, संहार के बाद सृजनात्मक शक्ति आप में स्थित रखी जाती है और आप अपनी अधखुली आँखों से सोते प्रतीत होते हैं। किन्तु तथ्य तो यह है कि आप एक सामान्य व्यक्ति की भाँति सोते नहीं, क्योंकि आप भौतिक जगत की सृष्टि के परे सदैव दिव्य अवस्था में रहते हैं और सदैव दिव्य आनन्द का अनुभव करते हैं। इस तरह क्षीरोदकशायी विष्णु के रूप में आप भौतिक वस्तुओं को छुए बिना अपनी दिव्य स्थिति में बने रहते हैं। यद्यपि आप सोते प्रतीत होते हैं, किन्तु यह सोना अविद्या की निद्रा से पृथक् होता है। ।। ७-९-३२ ।।

This cosmic manifestation, the material world, is also Your body. This total lump of matter is agitated by Your potent energy known as kāla-śakti, and thus the three modes of material nature are manifested. You awaken from the bed of Śeṣa, Ananta, and from Your navel a small transcendental seed is generated. It is from this seed that the lotus flower of the gigantic universe is manifested, exactly as a banyan tree grows from a small seed. ।। 7-9-33 ।।

यह विराट भौतिक जगत भी आपका ही शरीर है। यह पदार्थ का पिंड आपकी काल शक्ति द्वारा क्षुब्ध होता है और इस तरह प्रकृति के तीनों गुण प्रकट होते हैं। तब आप शेष या अनन्त की शय्या से जागते हैं और आपकी नाभि से एक क्षुद्र दिव्य बीज उत्पन्न होता है। इसी बीज से विराट जगत का कमल पुष्प प्रकट होता है ठीक उसी तरह जिस प्रकार एक छोटे बीज से विशाल वट वृक्ष उगता है। ।। ७-९-३३ ।।

From that great lotus flower, Brahmā was generated, but Brahmā certainly could see nothing but the lotus. Therefore, thinking You to be outside, Lord Brahmā dove into the water and attempted to find the source of the lotus for one hundred years. He could find no trace of You, however, for when a seed fructifies, the original seed cannot be seen. ।। 7-9-34 ।।

उस विशाल कमल पुष्प से ब्रह्माजी उत्पन्न हुए किन्तु उन्हें उस कमल के सिवाय कुछ भी नहीं दिखा। अतएव आप को बाहर स्थित जानकर उन्होंने जल में गोता लगाया और वे एक सौ वर्षों तक उस कमल के उद्गम को खोजने का प्रयत्न करते रहे। किन्तु उन्हें आपका कोई पता नहीं चल पाया क्योंकि जब बीज फलीभूत होता है, तो असली बीज नहीं दिख पाता। ।। ७-९-३४ ।।

स त्वात्मयोनिरतिविस्मित आश्रितोऽब्जं कालेन तीव्रतपसा परिशुद्धभावः । त्वामात्मनीश भुवि गन्धमिवातिसूक्ष्मं भूतेन्द्रियाशयमये विततं ददर्श ।। ७-९-३५ ।।

Lord Brahmā, who is celebrated as ātma-yoni, having been born without a mother, was struck with wonder. Thus he took shelter of the lotus flower, and when he had been purified after undergoing severe austerities for many hundreds of years, he could see that the cause of all causes, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was spread throughout his own body and senses, just as aroma, although very subtle, is perceived in the earth. ।। 7-9-35 ।।

आत्मयोनि के नाम से विख्यात अर्थात् बिना माता के उत्पन्न ब्रह्माजी को आश्चर्य हुआ। अतएव उन्होंने कमल पुष्प की शरण ग्रहण की और जब वे सैकड़ों वर्षों तक कठोर तपस्या करने के बाद शुद्ध हुए तो वे देख पाये कि समस्त कारणों के कारण भगवान् उनके अपने पूरे शरीर तथा इन्द्रियों में उसी तरह व्याप्त थे जिस प्रकार गन्ध अत्यन्त सूक्ष्म होने पर भी पृथ्वी में अनुभव की जाती है। ।। ७-९-३५ ।।
