नारद उवाच श्रुत्वा पुत्रगिरो दैत्यः परपक्षसमाहिताः । जहास बुद्धिर्बालानां भिद्यते परबुद्धिभिः ।। ७-५-६ ।।

sanskrit

Nārada Muni continued: When Prahlāda Mahārāja spoke about the path of self-realization in devotional service, thus being faithful to the camp of his father’s enemies, Hiraṇyakaśipu, the King of the demons, heard Prahlāda’s words and he laughingly said, “Thus is the intelligence of children spoiled by the words of the enemy.” ।। 7-5-6 ।।

english translation

नारद मुनि ने आगे कहा : जब प्रह्लाद महाराज ने भक्तिमय आत्म-साक्षात्कार के विषय में बतलाया और इस तरह अपने पिता के शत्रु-पक्ष के प्रति अपनी स्वामि-भक्ति दिखलाई तो असुरराज हिरण्यकशिपु ने प्रह्लाद की बातें सुनकर हँसते हुए कहा—“शत्रु की वाणी द्वारा बाल बुद्धि इसी तरह बिगाड़ी जाती है।” ।। ७-५-६ ।।

सम्यग्विधार्यतां बालो गुरुगेहे द्विजातिभिः । विष्णुपक्षैः प्रतिच्छन्नैर्न भिद्येतास्य धीर्यथा ।। ७-५-७ ।।

sanskrit

Hiraṇyakaśipu advised his assistants: My dear demons, give complete protection to this boy at the gurukula where he is instructed, so that his intelligence will not be further influenced by Vaiṣṇavas who may go there in disguise. ।। 7-5-7 ।।

english translation

हिरण्यकशिपु ने अपने सहायकों को आदेश दिया: हे असुरो, इस बालक के गुरुकुल में जहाँ पर यह शिक्षा पाता है, इसकी सुरक्षा का पूरा ध्यान रखो जिससे इसकी बुद्धि छद्मवेश में घूमने वाले वैष्णवों द्वारा और अधिक न प्रभावित हो पाए। ।। ७-५-७ ।।

गृहमानीतमाहूय प्रह्लादं दैत्ययाजकाः । प्रशस्य श्लक्ष्णया वाचा समपृच्छन्त सामभिः ।। ७-५-८ ।।।

sanskrit

When Hiraṇyakaśipu’s servants brought the boy Prahlāda back to the gurukula [the place where the brāhmaṇas taught the boys], the priests of the demons, Ṣaṇḍa and Amarka, pacified him. With very mild voices and affectionate words, they inquired from him as follows. ।। 7-5-8 ।।

english translation

जब हिरण्यकशिपु के नौकर बालक प्रह्लाद को गुरुकुल वापस ले आये तो असुरों के पुरोहित षण्ड तथा अमर्क ने उसे शान्त किया। उन्होंने अत्यन्त मृदु वाणी तथा स्नेह भरे शब्दों से उससे इस प्रकार पूछा। ।। ७-५-८ ।।

वत्स प्रह्लाद भद्रं ते सत्यं कथय मा मृषा । बालानति कुतस्तुभ्यमेष बुद्धिविपर्ययः ।। ७-५-९ ।।

Dear son Prahlāda, all peace and good fortune unto you. Kindly do not speak lies; just reply with the truth. These boys you see are not like you, for they do not speak in a deviant way. How have you learned these instructions? How has your intelligence been spoiled in this way? ।। 7-5-9 ।।

english translation

हे पुत्र प्रह्लाद, तुम्हारा क्षेम तथा कल्याण हो। तुम झूठ मत बोलना। ये बालक जिन्हें तुम देख रहे हो, वे तुम जैसे नहीं हैं, क्योंकि ये सब पथभ्रष्ट जैसे नहीं बोलते। तुमने ये उपदेश कहाँ से सीखे? तुम्हारी बुद्धि इस तरह कैसे बिगड़ गई है? ।। ७-५-९ ।।

हे कुलश्रेष्ठ, तुम्हारी बुद्धि का यह विकार अपने आप आया है या शत्रुओं द्वारा लाया गया है? हम सब तुम्हारे अध्यापक हैं और इसके विषय में जानने के इच्छुक हैं। हमसे सच-सच कहो। ।। ७-५-१० ।।
