इत्येतदात्मनः स्वार्थं सन्तं विस्मृत्य वै पुमान् । विचित्रामसति द्वैते घोरामाप्नोति संसृतिम् ।। ७-१३-२७ ।।

sanskrit

In this way the conditioned soul living within the body forgets his self-interest because he identifies himself with the body. Because the body is material, his natural tendency is to be attracted by the varieties of the material world. Thus the living entity suffers the miseries of material existence. ।। 7-13-27 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार बद्ध आत्मा शरीर के भीतर रहकर अपने हित को भूल जाता है, क्योंकि वह अपनी पहचान शरीर के रूप में करने लगता है। चूँकि, शरीर भौतिक होता है अतएव उसकी सहज प्रवृत्ति भौतिक जगत की विविधताओं की ओर आकृष्ट होने की रहती है। इस तरह जीव इस संसार के कष्टों को भोगता है। ।। ७-१३-२७ ।।
