श्रीशुक उवाच एवं शप्तश्चित्रकेतुर्विमानादवरुह्य सः । प्रसादयामास सतीं मूर्ध्ना नम्रेण भारत ॥ ६-१७-१६ ॥
Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: My dear King Parīkṣit, when Chitraketu was cursed by Pārvatī, he descended from his airplane, bowed before her with great humility and pleased her completely. ॥ 6-17-16 ॥

श्री शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा—हे राजा परीक्षित! पार्वती द्वारा शाप दिये जाने पर चित्रकेतु अपने विमान से नीचे उतरा, उनके समक्ष विनम्रतापूर्वक नतमस्तक हुआ और उसने उन्हें पूर्णरूपेण प्रसन्न कर दिया। ॥ ६-१७-१६ ॥

चित्रकेतुरुवाच प्रतिगृह्णामि ते शापमात्मनोऽञ्जलिनाम्बिके । देवैर्मर्त्याय यत्प्रोक्तं पूर्वदिष्टं हि तस्य तत् ॥ ६-१७-१७ ॥
Chitraketu said: My dear mother, with my own hands folded together I accept the curse upon me. I do not mind the curse, for happiness and distress are given by the demigods as a result of one’s past deeds. ॥ 6-17-17 ॥

चित्रकेतु ने कहा—हे माता! मैं अपने हाथ जोड़ कर आपका शाप स्वीकार करता हूँ। मुझे शाप की परवाह नहीं है, क्योंकि मनुष्य के पूर्वकर्मों के अनुसार ही देवताओं द्वारा सुख या दुख प्रदान किये जाते हैं। ॥ ६-१७-१७ ॥

संसारचक्र एतस्मिञ्जन्तुरज्ञानमोहितः । भ्राम्यन् सुखं च दुःखं च भुङ्क्ते सर्वत्र सर्वदा ॥ ६-१७-१८ ॥
Deluded by ignorance, the living entity wanders in the forest of this material world, enjoying the happiness and distress resulting from his past deeds, everywhere and at all times. [Therefore, my dear mother, neither you nor I am to be blamed for this incident.] ॥ 6-17-18 ॥

अज्ञान से मोहग्रस्त होकर यह जीवात्मा इस संसार रूपी जंगल में भटकता रहता है और हर जगह तथा हर समय अपने पूर्वकर्मों के फलस्वरूप सुख तथा दुख पाता रहता है (अत: हे माता! इस घटना के लिए न आप दोषी हैं न मैं)। ॥ ६-१७-१८ ॥

नैवात्मा न परश्चापि कर्ता स्यात्सुखदुःखयोः । कर्तारं मन्यतेऽत्राज्ञ आत्मानं परमेव च ॥ ६-१७-१९ ॥
In this material world, neither the living entity himself nor others [friends and enemies] are the cause of material happiness and distress. But because of gross ignorance, the living entity thinks that he and others are the cause. ॥ 6-17-19 ॥

इस संसार में न तो स्वयं जीवात्मा और न पराये (मित्र तथा शत्रु) ही भौतिक सुख तथा दुख के कारण हैं। केवल अज्ञानतावश जीवात्मा यह सोचता है कि वह तथा पराये लोग इसके कारणस्वरूप हैं। ॥ ६-१७-१९ ॥

गुणप्रवाह एतस्मिन् कः शापः को न्वनुग्रहः । कः स्वर्गो नरकः को वा किं सुखं दुःखमेव वा ॥ ६-१७-२० ॥
This material world resembles the waves of a constantly flowing river. Therefore, what is a curse and what is a favor? What are the heavenly planets, and what are the hellish planets? What is actually happiness, and what is actually distress? Because the waves flow constantly, none of them has an eternal effect. ॥ 6-17-20 ॥

यह संसार सतत प्रवाहमान् नदी की तरंगों के समान है, अत: इसमें क्या शाप और क्या अनुग्रह? क्या स्वर्गलोक और क्या नरकलोक? क्या सुख और क्या वास्तविक दुख? निरन्तर प्रवाहित होते रहने के कारण तरंगें कोई शाश्वत प्रभाव नहीं छोड़तीं। ॥ ६-१७-२० ॥
