नैवात्मा न परश्चापि कर्ता स्यात्सुखदुःखयोः । कर्तारं मन्यतेऽत्राज्ञ आत्मानं परमेव च ।। ६-१७-१९ ।।

sanskrit

In this material world, neither the living entity himself nor others [friends and enemies] are the cause of material happiness and distress. But because of gross ignorance, the living entity thinks that he and others are the cause. ।। 6-17-19 ।।

english translation

इस संसार में न तो स्वयं जीवात्मा और न पराये (मित्र तथा शत्रु) ही भौतिक सुख तथा दुख के कारण हैं। केवल अज्ञानतावश जीवात्मा यह सोचता है कि वह तथा पराये लोग इसके कारणस्वरूप हैं। ।। ६-१७-१९ ।।

naivAtmA na parazcApi kartA syAtsukhaduHkhayoH | kartAraM manyate'trAjJa AtmAnaM parameva ca || 6-17-19 ||
