राजोवाच कस्य हेतोः परित्यक्ता आचार्येणात्मनः सुराः । एतदाचक्ष्व भगवञ्छिष्याणामक्रमं गुरौ ॥ ६-७-१ ।।
Mahārāja Parīkṣit inquired from Śukadeva Gosvāmī: O great sage, why did the spiritual master of the demigods, Bṛhaspati, reject the demigods, who were his own disciples? What offense did the demigods commit against their spiritual master? Please describe to me this incident. ॥ 6-7-1 ॥

महाराज परीक्षित ने शुकदेव गोस्वामी से पूछा—हे महामुनि! देवताओं के गुरु बृहस्पति ने देवताओं का परित्याग क्यों किया जो उनके ही शिष्य थे। देवताओं ने अपने गुरु के साथ ऐसा कौन सा अपराध किया? कृपया मुझसे इस घटना का वर्णन करें। ॥ ६-७-१ ॥

श्रीशुक उवाच इन्द्रस्त्रिभुवनैश्वर्यमदोल्लङ्घितसत्पथः । मरुद्भिर्वसुभी रुद्रैरादित्यैरृभुभिर्नृप ॥ ६-७-२ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, once upon a time, the King of heaven, Indra, being extremely proud because of his great opulence of the three worlds, transgressed the law of Vedic etiquette. ॥ 6-7-2 ॥
english translation
शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा—हे राजन्! एक बार तीनों लोकों के ऐश्वर्य से अत्यधिक गर्वित हो जाने के कारण स्वर्ग के राजा इन्द्र ने वैदिक आचार-संहिता का उल्लंघन कर दिया। ॥ ६-७-२ ॥

विश्वेदेवैश्च साध्यैश्च नासत्याभ्यां परिश्रितः । सिद्धचारणगन्धर्वैर्मुनिभिर्ब्रह्मवादिभिः ॥ ६-७-३ ॥
Seated on his throne, he was surrounded by the Maruts, Vasus, Rudras, Ādityas, Ṛbhus, Viśvadevas, Sādhyas, Aśvinī-kumāras, Siddhas, Cāraṇas and Gandharvas and by great saintly persons. Also surrounding him were the Vidyādharas, Apsarās, Kinnaras, Patagas [birds] ॥ 6-7-3 ॥

वे सिंहासन पर आसीन थे और उनके चारों ओर मरुत, वसु, रुद्र, आदित्य, ऋभु, विश्वदेव, साध्य, अश्विनी-कुमार, सिद्ध, चारण, गंधर्व तथा सभी बड़े बड़े ऋषि मुनियों के अतिरिक्त विद्याधर, अप्सराएँ, किन्नर, पतग (पक्षी) ॥ ६-७-३ ॥

विद्याधराप्सरोभिश्च किन्नरैः पतगोरगैः । निषेव्यमाणो मघवान् स्तूयमानश्च भारत ॥ ६-७-४ ॥
And Uragas [snakes]. All of them were offering Indra their respects and services, and the Apsarās and Gandharvas were dancing ॥ 6-7-4 ॥

तथा उरग (सर्प) भी बैठे थे। वे सभी इन्द्र की स्तुति और सेवा कर रहे थे और अप्सराएँ तथा गन्धर्व नृत्य कर रहे थे ॥ ६-७-४ ॥

उपगीयमानो ललितमास्थानाध्यासनाश्रितः । पाण्डुरेणातपत्रेण चन्द्रमण्डलचारुणा ॥ ६-७-५ ॥
And singing with very sweet musical instruments. Over Indra’s head was a white umbrella as effulgent as the full moon. ॥ 6-7-5 ॥

और अपने मधुर वाद्ययंत्रों के साथ गायन कर रहे थे। इन्द्र के सर पर पूर्ण चन्द्रमा के समान तेजवान् श्वेत छत्र तना था, ॥ ६-७-५ ॥
