युक्तश्चान्यैः पारमेष्ठ्यैश्चामरव्यजनादिभिः । विराजमानः पौलोम्या सहार्धासनया भृशम् ॥ ६-७-६ ॥
Fanned by yak-tail whisks and served with all the paraphernalia of a great king, Indra was sitting with his wife, Śacīdevī, who occupied half the throne, when the great sage Bṛhaspati appeared in that assembly. ॥ 6-7-6 ॥

चँवर झला जा रहा था और समस्त राजसी ठाठ-बाट सजा था। इन्द्र अपनी अर्धांगिनी शचीदेवी सहित सिंहासन पर बैठे थे तभी उस सभा में परम साधु बृहस्पति का प्रवेश हुआ। ॥ ६-७-६ ॥

स यदा परमाचार्यं देवानामात्मनश्च ह । नाभ्यनन्दत सम्प्राप्तं प्रत्युत्थानासनादिभिः ॥ ६-७-७ ॥
Bṛhaspati, the best of the sages, was the spiritual master of Indra and the demigods and was respected by the demigods and demons alike. ॥ 6-7-7 ॥

सर्वश्रेष्ठ साधु बृहस्पति इन्द्र समेत सभी देवताओं के गुरु थे और देवताओं तथा असुरों के द्वारा समान रूप से सम्मानित थे। ॥ ६-७-७ ॥

वाचस्पतिं मुनिवरं सुरासुरनमस्कृतम् । नोच्चचालासनादिन्द्रः पश्यन्नपि सभागतम् ॥ ६-७-८ ॥
Nevertheless, although Indra saw his spiritual master before him, he did not rise from his own seat or offer a seat to his spiritual master, nor did Indra offer him a respectful welcome. Indra did nothing to show him respect. ॥ 6-7-8 ॥

तो भी अपने गुरु को समक्ष देखकर इन्द्र न तो अपने आसन से उठा, न अपने गुरु को बैठने के लिए आसन दिया और न उनका आदर पूर्वक सत्कार ही किया। तात्पर्य यह है कि इन्द्र ने सम्मानसूचक कोई भी कार्य नहीं किया। ॥ ६-७-८ ॥

ततो निर्गत्य सहसा कविराङ्गिरसः प्रभुः । आययौ स्वगृहं तूष्णीं विद्वान् श्रीमदविक्रियाम् ॥ ६-७-९ ॥
Bṛhaspati knew everything that would happen in the future. Seeing Indra’s transgression of etiquette, he completely understood that Indra was puffed up by his material opulence. Although able to curse Indra, he did not do so. Instead, he left the assembly and in silence returned to his home. ॥ 6-7-9 ॥

बृहस्पति को सब कुछ ज्ञात था कि भविष्य में क्या होने वाला है। इन्द्र द्वारा सारे शिष्टाचार का उल्लंघन देखकर वे पूरी तरह समझ गये कि इन्द्र ऐश्वर्य के मद से फूल उठा है। वे चाहते तो इन्द्र को शाप दे सकते थे, किन्तु उन्होंने ऐसा नहीं किया। वे उस सभा से निकलकर चुपचाप अपने घर चले आये। ॥ ६-७-९ ॥

तर्ह्येव प्रतिबुध्येन्द्रो गुरुहेलनमात्मनः । गर्हयामास सदसि स्वयमात्मानमात्मना ॥ ६-७-१० ॥
Indra, the King of heaven, could immediately understand his mistake. Realizing he had disrespected his spiritual master, he condemned himself in the presence of all the members of the assembly. ॥ 6-7-10 ॥

स्वर्ग के राजा इन्द्र ने तुरन्त ही अपनी भूल समझ ली। यह जानते हुए कि उन्होंने अपने गुरु का निरादर किया है, उन्होंने उस सभा के समस्त सदस्यों के समक्ष स्वयं ही अपनी भर्त्सना की। ॥ ६-७-१० ॥
