पश्य मां निर्जितं शक्र वृक्णायुधभुजं मृधे । घटमानं यथाशक्ति तव प्राणजिहीर्षया ॥ ६-१२-१६ ॥
O my enemy, just look at me. I have already been defeated, for my weapon and arm have been cut to pieces. You have already overwhelmed me, but nonetheless, with a desire to kill you, I am trying my best to fight. I am not at all morose, even under such adverse conditions. Therefore you should give up your moroseness and continue fighting. ॥ 6-12-16 ॥

अरे मेरे शत्रु! जरा मेरी ओर देख। मैं पहले ही पराजित हो चुका हूँ, क्योंकि मेरा हथियार तथा मेरी भुजा पहले ही खंड-खंड हो चुके हैं। तुमने मुझे पहले ही परास्त कर दिया है, तो भी मैं तुम्हें मारने की प्रबल इच्छा के कारण तुमसे लडऩे का भरसक प्रयत्न कर रहा हूँ। ऐसी विषम परिस्थिति में भी मैं तनिक भी दुखी नहीं हूँ। अत: तुम उदासीनता त्याग करके युद्ध जारी रखो। ॥ ६-१२-१६ ॥

प्राणग्लहोऽयं समर इष्वक्षो वाहनासनः । अत्र न ज्ञायतेऽमुष्य जयोऽमुष्य पराजयः ॥ ६-१२-१७ ॥
O my enemy, consider this battle a gambling match in which our lives are the stakes, the arrows are the dice, and the animals acting as carriers are the game board. No one can understand who will be defeated and who will be victorious. It all depends on providence. ॥ 6-12-17 ॥

अरे मेरे शत्रु! इस युद्ध को द्यूतक्रीड़ा का खेल मानो जिसमें हमारे प्राणों की बाजी लगी है, बाण पासे हैं और वाहक पशु चौसर हैं। कोई नहीं जानता कि कौन हारेगा और कौन जीतेगा। यह सब विधाता पर निर्भर है। ॥ ६-१२-१७ ॥

श्रीशुक उवाच इन्द्रो वृत्रवचः श्रुत्वा गतालीकमपूजयत् । गृहीतवज्रः प्रहसंस्तमाह गतविस्मयः ॥ ६-१२-१८ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Hearing the straightforward, instructive words of Vṛtrāsura, King Indra praised him and again took the thunderbolt in his hand. Without bewilderment or duplicity, he then smiled and spoke to Vṛtrāsura as follows. ॥ 6-12-18 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा—वृत्रासुर के निष्कपट तथा निर्देशात्मक वचन सुनकर राजा इन्द्र ने उसकी प्रशंसा की और अपने वज्र को पुन: हाथ में धारण कर लिया। इसके बाद बिना मोह या द्वैत-भाव से वह हँसा और वृत्रासुर से इस प्रकार बोला। ॥ ६-१२-१८ ॥

इन्द्र उवाच अहो दानव सिद्धोऽसि यस्य ते मतिरीदृशी । भक्तः सर्वात्मनाऽऽत्मानं सुहृदं जगदीश्वरम् ॥ ६-१२-१९ ॥
Indra said: O great demon, I see by your discrimination and endurance in devotional service, despite your dangerous position, that you are a perfect devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Supersoul and friend of everyone. ॥ 6-12-19 ॥

इन्द्र ने कहा, हे असुरश्रेष्ठ! मैं देखता हूँ कि संकटमय स्थिति में होते हुए भी अपने विवेक तथा भक्तियोग में निष्ठा के कारण तुम श्रीभगवान् के पूर्ण भक्त तथा जन-जन के मित्र हो। ॥ ६-१२-१९ ॥

भवानतार्षीन्मायां वै वैष्णवीं जनमोहिनीम् । यद्विहायासुरं भावं महापुरुषतां गतः ॥ ६-१२-२० ॥
You have surmounted the illusory energy of Lord Viṣṇu, and because of this liberation, you have given up the demoniac mentality and have attained the position of an exalted devotee. ॥ 6-12-20 ॥

तुमने भगवान् विष्णु की माया को पार कर लिया है और इस मुक्ति के कारण तुमने आसुरी भाव का परित्याग करके महान् भक्त का पद प्राप्त कर लिया है। ॥ ६-१२-२० ॥
