तस्मात्कर्मसु बर्हिष्मन्नज्ञानादर्थकाशिषु । मार्थदृष्टिं कृथाः श्रोत्रस्पर्शिष्वस्पृष्टवस्तुषु ।। ४-२९-४७ ।।

My dear King Barhiṣmān, you should never out of ignorance take to the Vedic rituals or to fruitive activity, which may be pleasing to hear about or which may appear to be the goal of self-interest. You should never take these to be the ultimate goal of life. ।। 4-29-47 ।।

english translation

हे राजा बर्हिष्मान्, तुम्हें अज्ञानवश कभी भी वैदिक अनुष्ठानों या सकाम कर्मों को अपनाना नहीं चाहिए, भले ही वे कर्णप्रिय क्यों न हों, अथवा आत्म सिद्धि के लक्ष्य प्रतीत होते हों। तुम्हें चाहिए कि इन्हें कभी भी जीवन का चरम लक्ष्य न समझो। ।। ४-२९-४७ ।।
