Srimad Bhagavatam
तितिक्षुर्यतवाग्दान्त ऊर्ध्वरेता जितानिलः । आरिराधयिषुः कृष्णमचरत्तप उत्तमम् ॥ ४-२३-७ ॥
Mahārāja Pṛthu underwent all these severe austerities in order to control his words and his senses, to refrain from discharging his semen and to control the life air within his body. All this he did for the satisfaction of Kṛṣṇa. He had no other purpose. ॥ 4-23-7 ॥
english translation
अपनी वाणी तथा इन्द्रियों को वश में करने, वीर्य स्खलित न होने देने तथा अपने शरीर के भीतर प्राण-वायु को वश में करने के लिए महाराज पृथु ने ये सारी कठिन तपस्याएँ साधीं। यह सब उन्होंने श्रीकृष्ण को प्रसन्न करने के लिए किया। इसके अतिरिक्त उनका कोई अन्य प्रयोजन न था। ॥ ४-२३-७ ॥
