मैत्रेय उवाच जनेषु प्रगृणत्स्वेवं पृथुं पृथुलविक्रमम् । तत्रोपजग्मुर्मुनयश्चत्वारः सूर्यवर्चसः ॥ ४-२२-१ ॥

The great sage Maitreya said: While the citizens were thus praying to the most powerful King Pṛthu, the four Kumāras, who were as bright as the sun, arrived on the spot. ॥ 4-22-1 ॥

english translation

महामुनि मैत्रेय ने कहा : जिस समय सारे नागरिक परम शक्तिमान महाराज पृथु की इस प्रकार स्तुति कर रहे थे उसी समय वहाँ पर सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी चारों कुमार आये। ॥ ४-२२-१ ॥

तांस्तु सिद्धेश्वरान् राजा व्योम्नोऽवतरतोऽर्चिषा । लोकानपापान् कुर्वत्या सानुगोऽचष्ट लक्षितान् ॥ ४-२२-२ ॥

Seeing the glowing effulgence of the four Kumāras, the masters of all mystic power, the King and his associates could recognize them as they descended from the sky. ॥ 4-22-2 ॥

english translation

समस्त योग शक्तियों के स्वामी चारों कुमारों के देदीप्यमान् तेज को देखकर राजा तथा उनके पार्षदों ने उन्हें आकाश से उतरते ही पहचान लिया। ॥ ४-२२-२ ॥

तद्दर्शनोद्गतान् प्राणान् प्रत्यादित्सुरिवोत्थितः । ससदस्यानुगो वैन्य इन्द्रियेशो गुणानिव ॥ ४-२२-३ ॥

Seeing the four Kumāras, Pṛthu Mahārāja was greatly anxious to receive them. Therefore the King, with all his officers, very hastily got up, as anxiously as a conditioned soul whose senses are immediately attracted by the modes of material nature. ॥ 4-22-3 ॥

english translation

चारों कुमारों को देखकर पृथु महाराज उनके स्वागत के लिए आतुर हो उठे। अत: अपने पार्षदों सहित वे तुरन्त इस तरह तेज़ी से उठ कर खड़े हो गये मानो कोई बद्धजीव प्रकृति के गुणों द्वारा तुरन्त आकृष्ट हो उठ़ा हो। ॥ ४-२२-३ ॥

गौरवाद्यन्त्रितः सभ्यः प्रश्रयानतकन्धरः । विधिवत्पूजयाञ्चक्रे गृहीताध्यर्हणासनान् ॥ ४-२२-४ ॥

When the great sages accepted their reception, according to the instructions of the śāstras, and finally took their seats offered by the King, the King, influenced by the glories of the sages, immediately bowed down. Thus he worshiped the four Kumāras. ॥ 4-22-4 ॥

english translation

जब वे महान् ऋषिगण शास्त्रविहित ढंग से उनके द्वारा किये गये स्वागत को स्वीकार कर राजा द्वारा प्रदत्त आसनों पर बैठ गये तो राजा उनके गौरव के वशीभूत होकर तुरन्त नतमस्तक हुआ। इस प्रकार उसने चारों कुमारों की पूजा की। ॥ ४-२२-४ ॥

तत्पादशौचसलिलैर्मार्जितालकबन्धनः । तत्र शीलवतां वृत्तमाचरन् मानयन्निव ॥ ४-२२-५ ॥

After this, the King took the water which had washed the lotus feet of the Kumāras and sprinkled it over his hair. By such respectful actions, the King, as an exemplary personality, showed how to receive a spiritually advanced personality. ॥ 4-22-5 ॥

english translation

तत्पश्चात् राजा ने कुमारों के चरणकमलों के धोये हुए जल को लेकर अपने बालों पर छिडक़ा। ऐसे शिष्ट आचरण से राजा ने आदर्श पुरुष की तरह यह प्रदर्शित किया कि आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से उन्नत व्यक्ति का किस प्रकार सम्मान करना चाहिए। ॥ ४-२२-५ ॥
