सर्वे स्वमुख्यवत्सेन स्वे स्वे पात्रे पृथक्पयः । सर्वकामदुघां पृथ्वीं दुदुहुः पृथुभाविताम् ।। ४-१८-२६ ।।

sanskrit

The planet earth supplied everyone his respective food. During the time of King Pṛthu, the earth was fully under the control of the King. Thus all the inhabitants of the earth could get their food supply by creating various types of calves and putting their particular types of milk in various pots. ।। 4-18-26 ।।

english translation

पृथ्वीलोक ने सबों को अपना-अपना भोजन प्रदान किया है। राजा पृथु के काल में, पृथ्वी पूर्ण रूप से राजा के अधीन थी। अत: पृथ्वी के सभी वासी अपना-अपना बछड़ा उत्पन्न करके तथा विभिन्न प्रकार के पात्रों में अपने विशिष्ट प्रकार के दूध को रख कर अपना भोजन प्राप्त कर सके। ।। ४-१८-२६ ।।

एवं पृथ्वादयः पृथ्वीमन्नादाः स्वन्नमात्मनः । दोहवत्सादि भेदेन क्षीरभेदं कुरूद्वह ।। ४-१८-२७ ।।

sanskrit

My dear Vidura, chief of the Kurus, in this way King Pṛthu and all the others who subsist on food created different types of calves and milked out their respective eatables. Thus they received their various foodstuffs, which were symbolized as milk. ।। 4-18-27 ।।

english translation

हे कुरुश्रेष्ठ विदुर जी, इस प्रकार राजा पृथु तथा अन्नभोजियों ने विभिन्न प्रकार के बछड़े उत्पन्न किये और अपने-अपने खाद्य-पदार्थों को दुह लिया। इस तरह उन्होंने विभिन्न प्रकार के खाद्य-पदार्थ प्राप्त किये जो दूध का प्रतीक हैं। ।। ४-१८-२७ ।।

ततो महीपतिः प्रीतः सर्वकामदुघां पृथुः । दुहितृत्वे चकारेमां प्रेम्णा दुहितृवत्सलः ।। ४-१८-२८ ।।

sanskrit

Thereafter King Pṛthu was very satisfied with the planet earth, for she sufficiently supplied all food to various living entities. Thus he developed an affection for the planet earth, just as if she were his own daughter. ।। 4-18-28 ‌।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् राजा पृथु पृथ्वी से अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हो गये क्योंकि उसने विभिन्न जीवात्माओं के लिए प्रचुर मात्रा में भोजन की पूर्ति की। इस प्रकार पृथ्वी के प्रति राजा स्नेहिल हो उठा, मानो वह उसकी पुत्री हो। ।। ४-१८-२८ ।।

चूर्णयन् स्वधनुष्कोट्या गिरिकूटानि राजराट् । भूमण्डलमिदं वैन्यः प्रायश्चक्रे समं विभुः ।। ४-१८-२९ ।।

sanskrit

After this, the king of all kings, Mahārāja Pṛthu, leveled all rough places on the surface of the globe by breaking up the hills with the strength of his bow. By his grace the surface of the globe almost became flat. ।। 4-18-29 ।।

english translation

फिर राजधिराज महाराज पृथु ने अपने बाण की शक्ति से पर्वतों को तोड़ कर भूमण्डल के समस्त ऊबड़-खाबड़ स्थानों को समतल कर दिया। उनकी कृपा से भूमण्डल की पूरी सतह प्राय: सपाट हो गई। ।। ४-१८-२९ ।।

अथास्मिन् भगवान् वैन्यः प्रजानां वृत्तिदः पिता । निवासान् कल्पयाञ्चक्रे तत्र तत्र यथार्हतः ।। ४-१८-३० ।।

sanskrit

To all the citizens of the state, King Pṛthu was as good as a father. Thus he was visibly engaged in giving them proper subsistence and proper employment for subsistence. After leveling the surface of the globe, he earmarked different places for residential quarters, inasmuch as they were desirable. ।। 4-18-30 ।।

english translation

राजा पृथु अपनी सारी प्रजा के लिए पिता तुल्य था। वह उन्हें उचित जीविका देने में प्रत्यक्ष रूप से व्यस्त था। उसने भूमण्डल की सतह को समतल करके जितने भी निवास-स्थानों की आवश्यकता थी उनके लिए विभिन्न स्थल नियत कर दिये। ।। ४-१८-३० ।।
