पृथुरुवाच वसुधे त्वां वधिष्यामि मच्छासनपराङ्मुखीम् । भागं बर्हिषि या वृङ्क्ते न तनोति च नो वसु ।। ४-१७-२२ ।‌।

sanskrit

King Pṛthu replied to the earthly planet: My dear earth, you have disobeyed my orders and rulings. In the form of a demigod you accepted your share of the yajñas we performed, but in return you have not produced sufficient food grains. For this reason I must kill you. ।। 4-17-22

english translation

राजा पृथु ने पृथ्वी को उत्तर दिया: हे पृथ्वी, तुमने मेरी आज्ञा तथा नियमों का उल्लंघन किया है। तुमने हमारे द्वारा सम्पन्न यज्ञों में देवता के रूप में अपना अंश ग्रहण किया है, किन्तु बदले में पर्याप्त अन्न नहीं उत्पन्न किया। इस कारण मैं तुम्हारा वध कर दूँगा। ।। ४-१७-२२ ।।
