स ते मा विनशेद्वीर प्रजानां क्षेमलक्षणः । यस्मिन् विनष्टे नृपतिरैश्वर्यादवरोहति ।। ४-१४-१६ ।।

sanskrit

The sages continued: O great hero, for this reason you should not be the cause of spoiling the spiritual life of the general populace. If their spiritual life is spoiled because of your activities, you will certainly fall down from your opulent and royal position. ।। 4-14-16 ।।

english translation

मुनियों ने आगे कहा : अत: हे महान् वीर, आपको सामान्य जनता के आध्यात्मिक जीवन को विनष्ट करने में निमित्त नहीं बनना चाहिए। यदि आपके कार्यों से उनका आध्यात्मिक जीवन विनष्ट होता है, तो आप निश्चित रूप से अपने ऐश्वर्यपूर्ण तथा राजोचित पद से नीचे गिरेंगे। ।। ४-१४-१६ ।।

राजन्नसाध्वमात्येभ्यश्चोरादिभ्यः प्रजा नृपः । रक्षन् यथा बलिं गृह्णन्निह प्रेत्य च मोदते ।। ४-१४-१७ ।।

sanskrit

The saintly persons continued: When the king protects the citizens from the disturbances of mischievous ministers as well as from thieves and rogues, he can, by virtue of such pious activities, accept taxes given by his subjects. Thus a pious king can certainly enjoy himself in this world as well as in the life after death. ।। 4-14-17 ‌।।

english translation

मुनियों ने आगे कहा : जब राजा दुष्ट मंत्रियों के तथा चोर-उचक्कों के उत्पातों से नागरिकों की रक्षा करता है, तो अपने इन पवित्र कार्यों के कारण वह अपनी प्रजा से कर प्राप्त कर सकता है। इस प्रकार पवित्र राजा इस संसार में और मृत्यु के बाद भी सुख भोग सकता है। ।। ४-१४-१७ ।।

यस्य राष्ट्रे पुरे चैव भगवान् यज्ञपूरुषः । इज्यते स्वेन धर्मेण जनैर्वर्णाश्रमान्वितैः ।। ४-१४-१८ ।।

sanskrit

The king is supposed to be pious in whose state and cities the general populace strictly observes the system of eight social orders of varṇa and āśrama, and where all citizens engage in worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead by their particular occupations. ‌।। 4-14-18 ।।

english translation

वह राजा पवित्र समझा जाता है, जिसके राज्य तथा नगरों में प्रजा वर्ण तथा आश्रम की आठ सामाजिक व्यवस्थाओं का कठोरता से पालन करती है और जहाँ के नागरिक अपने विशिष्ट धर्म (वृत्ति) द्वारा भगवान् की सेवा में संलग्न रहते हैं। ।। ४-१४-१८ ।।

तस्य राज्ञो महाभाग भगवान् भूतभावनः । परितुष्यति विश्वात्मा तिष्ठतो निजशासने ।। ४-१४-१९ ।।

O noble one, if the king sees that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the original cause of the cosmic manifestation and the Supersoul within everyone, is worshiped, the Lord will be satisfied. ।। 4-14-19 ।।

english translation

हे महाभाग, यदि राजा यह देखता है कि दृश्य जगत के मूल कारण भगवान् तथा हर एक के भीतर स्थित परमात्मा की पूजा होती है, तो भगवान् प्रसन्न होते हैं। ।। ४-१४-१९ ।।

तस्मिंस्तुष्टे किमप्राप्यं जगतामीश्वरेश्वरे । लोकाः सपाला ह्येतस्मै हरन्ति बलिमादृताः ।। ४-१४-२० ।।

sanskrit

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is worshiped by the great demigods who are controllers of universal affairs. When He is satisfied, nothing is impossible to achieve. For this reason all the demigods, presiding deities of different planets, as well as the inhabitants of their planets, take great pleasure in offering all kinds of paraphernalia for His worship. ।। 4-14-20 ।।

english translation

भगवान् विश्व के नियन्ता बड़े-बड़े देवताओं द्वारा पूजित हैं। जब वे प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं, तो कुछ भी प्राप्त करना दुर्लभ नहीं रह जाता। इसीलिए सभी देवता, लोकपाल तथा उनके लोकों के निवासी भगवान् को सभी प्रकार की पूजा-सामग्री अर्पित करने में अत्यधिक प्रसन्नता का अनुभव करते हैं। ।। ४-१४-२० ।।
