निरूपितः प्रजापालः स जिघांसति वै प्रजाः । तथापि सान्त्वयेमामुं नास्मांस्तत्पातकं स्पृशेत् ॥ ४-१४-११ ॥

We appointed this Vena king of the state in order to give protection to the citizens, but now he has become the enemy of the citizens. Despite all these discrepancies, we should at once try to pacify him. By doing so, we may not be touched by the sinful results caused by him. ॥ 4-14-11 ॥

english translation

हमने इस वेन को नागरिकों की सुरक्षा के हेतु नियुक्त किया था, किन्तु अब वह उनका शत्रु बन चुका है। इन सब न्यूनताओं के होते हुए भी, हमें चाहिए कि उसे तुरन्त समझाने का प्रयत्न करें। ऐसा करने से हमें उसके पाप स्पर्श नहीं कर सकेंगे। ॥ ४-१४-११ ॥

तद्विद्वद्भिरसद्वृत्तो वेनोऽस्माभिः कृतो नृपः । सान्त्वितो यदि नो वाचं न ग्रहीष्यत्यधर्मकृत् ॥ ४-१४-१२ ॥

The saintly sages continued thinking: Of course, we were completely aware of his mischievous nature, yet we nevertheless enthroned Vena. If we cannot persuade King Vena to accept our advice, he will be condemned by the public, and we will join them. Thus by our prowess we shall burn him to ashes. ॥ 4-14-12 ॥

संत सदृश मुनि लोगों ने आगे सोचा : निस्सन्देह हम उसके दुष्ट स्वभाव से भली भाँति परिचित हैं, तो भी हमीं ने वेन को राजसिंहासन पर बैठाया है। यदि हम उसे अपनी सलाह मानने के लिए राजी नहीं कर लेते तो जनता उसको दुत्कारेगी और हम भी उनका साथ देंगे। इस प्रकार हम अपने तेज से उसे भस्म कर डालेंगे। ॥ ४-१४-१२ ॥

लोकधिक्कारसन्दग्धं दहिष्यामः स्वतेजसा । एवमध्यवसायैनं मुनयो गूढमन्यवः । उपव्रज्याब्रुवन् वेनं सान्त्वयित्वा च सामभिः ॥ ४-१४-१३ ॥

The great sages, having thus decided, approached King Vena. Concealing their real anger, they pacified him with sweet words and then spoke as follows. ॥ 4-14-13 ॥

english translation

ऐसा निश्चय करके ऋषिगण राजा वेन के पास गये और अपना वास्तविक क्रोध छिपाते हुए उन्होंने उसे मीठे वचनों से समझाया-बुझाया। फिर उन्होंने इस प्रकार कहा। ॥ ४-१४-१३ ॥

मुनय ऊचुः नृपवर्य निबोधैतद्यत्ते विज्ञापयाम भोः । आयुःश्रीबलकीर्तीनां तव तात विवर्धनम् ॥ ४-१४-१४ ॥

The great sages said: Dear King, we have come to give you good advice. Kindly hear us with great attention. By doing so, your duration of life and your opulence, strength and reputation will increase. ॥ 4-14-14 ॥

मुनियों ने कहा: हे राजन्, हम आपके पास सदुपदेश देने आये हैं। कृपया ध्यानपूर्वक सुनें। ऐसा करने से आपकी आयु, ऐश्वर्य, बल तथा कीर्ति बढ़ेगी। ॥ ४-१४-१४ ॥

धर्म आचरितः पुंसां वाङ्मनःकायबुद्धिभिः । लोकान् विशोकान् वितरत्यथानन्त्यमसङ्गिनाम् ‌॥ ४-१४-१५ ॥

Those who live according to religious principles and who follow them by words, mind, body and intelligence are elevated to the heavenly kingdom, which is devoid of all miseries. Being thus rid of the material influence, they achieve unlimited happiness in life. ॥ 4-14-15 ॥

english translation

जो लोग धार्मिक नियमों के अनुसार रहते हैं और जो मन, वचन, शरीर तथा बुद्धि से इनका पालन करते हैं, वे स्वर्गलोक को जाते हैं, जो समस्त शोकों (दुखों) से रहित है। इस प्रकार भौतिक प्रभाव से छूट कर वे जीवन में असीम सुख प्राप्त करते हैं। ॥ ४-१४-१५ ॥
