Srimad Bhagavatam
महाभूतानि पञ्चैव भूरापोऽग्निर्मरुन्नभः । तन्मात्राणि च तावन्ति गन्धादीनि मतानि मे ॥ ३-२६-१२ ॥
There are five gross elements, namely earth, water, fire, air and ether. There are also five subtle elements: smell, taste, color, touch and sound. ॥ 3-26-12 ॥
english translation
पाँच स्थूल तत्त्वों के नाम हैं पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु तथा आकाश (शून्य)। सूक्ष्म तत्त्व भी पाँच हैं—गंध, स्वाद, रंग, स्पर्श तथा शब्द (ध्वनि)। ॥ ३-२६-१२ ॥
