Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Seeing the kings of this earth busy trying to conquer her, the earth herself laughed. She said: “Just see how these kings, who are actually playthings in the hands of death, are desiring to conquer me.।। 12-3-1 ।।

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा: इस पृथ्वी के राजाओं को उसे जीतने की कोशिश में व्यस्त देखकर, पृथ्वी स्वयं हँसी। उसने कहा: “देखो, ये राजा, जो वास्तव में मृत्यु के हाथ के खिलौने हैं, मुझे कैसे जीतना चाहते हैं। ।। १२-३-१ ।।
“Great rulers of men, even those who are learned, meet frustration and failure because of material lust. Driven by lust, these kings place great hope and faith in the dead lump of flesh called the body, even though the material frame is as fleeting as bubbles of foam on water. ।। 12-3-2 ।।

“महान शासक, यहाँ तक कि विद्वान भी, भौतिक वासना के कारण निराशा और असफलता का सामना करते हैं। वासना से प्रेरित होकर, ये राजा मांस के मृत लोथड़े, जिसे शरीर कहा जाता है, में बहुत आशा और विश्वास रखते हैं, भले ही भौतिक ढाँचा पानी पर झाग के बुलबुले के समान क्षणभंगुर हो। ।। १२-३-२ ।।

“Kings and politicians imagine: ‘First I will conquer my senses and mind; then I will subdue my chief ministers and rid myself of the thorn-pricks of my advisors, citizens, friends and relatives, as well as the keepers of my elephants. ।। 12-3-3 ।।

“राजा और राजनेता कल्पना करते हैं: 'पहले मैं अपनी इंद्रियों और मन पर विजय प्राप्त करूंगा; तब मैं अपने प्रधानमंत्रियों को वश में कर लूंगा और अपने सलाहकारों, नागरिकों, मित्रों और रिश्तेदारों के साथ-साथ अपने हाथियों के रखवालों की चुभन से भी छुटकारा पा लूंगा। ।। १२-३-३ ।।
एवं क्रमेण जेष्यामः पृथ्वीं सागरमेखलाम् । इत्याशाबद्धहृदया न पश्यन्त्यन्तिकेऽन्तकम् ।। १२-३-४ ।।
In this way I will gradually conquer the entire earth.’ Because the hearts of these leaders are bound by great expectations, they fail to see death waiting nearby. ।। 12-3-4 ।।

इस तरह मैं धीरे-धीरे पूरी पृथ्वी पर विजय प्राप्त कर लूंगा।' क्योंकि इन नेताओं के दिल बड़ी उम्मीदों से बंधे हैं, वे निकट इंतजार कर रही मौत को देखने में विफल रहते हैं। ।। १२-३-४ ।।
“After conquering all the land on my surface, these proud kings forcibly enter the ocean to conquer the sea itself. What is the use of their self-control, which is aimed at political exploitation? The actual goal of self-control is spiritual liberation.” ।। 12-3-5 ।।
