श्रीभगवानुवाच पुत्रा हिरण्यगर्भस्य मानसाः सनकादयः । पप्रच्छुः पितरं सूक्ष्मां योगस्यैकान्तिकीं गतिम् ॥ ११-१३-१६ ॥
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Once, the mental sons of Lord Brahmā, namely, the sages headed by Sanaka, inquired from their father about the difficult subject matter of the supreme goal of yoga. ॥ 11-13-16 ॥

भगवान के परम व्यक्तित्व ने कहा एक बार, भगवान ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्रों, अर्थात् सनक आदि ऋषियों ने, अपने पिता से योग के सर्वोच्च लक्ष्य के कठिन विषय के बारे में पूछताछ की। ॥ ११-१३-१६ ॥

सनकादय ऊचुः गुणेष्वाविशते चेतो गुणाश्चेतसि च प्रभो । कथमन्योन्यसन्त्यागो मुमुक्षोरतितितीर्षोः ॥ ११-१३-१७ ॥
The sages headed by Sanaka said: O Lord, people’s minds are naturally attracted to material sense objects, and similarly the sense objects in the form of desire enter within the mind. Therefore, how can a person who desires liberation, who desires to cross over activities of sense gratification, destroy this mutual relationship between the sense objects and the mind? Please explain this to us. ॥ 11-13-17 ॥

सनक आदि ऋषियों ने कहा: हे भगवान, लोगों का मन स्वाभाविक रूप से भौतिक इंद्रिय विषयों की ओर आकर्षित होता है, और इसी तरह इच्छा के रूप में इंद्रिय विषय मन के भीतर प्रवेश करते हैं। इसलिए, जो व्यक्ति मुक्ति की इच्छा रखता है, जो इंद्रिय संतुष्टि की गतिविधियों से पार पाने की इच्छा रखता है, वह इंद्रिय विषयों और मन के बीच के इस पारस्परिक संबंध को कैसे नष्ट कर सकता है? कृपया हमें यह बात समझाएं। ॥ ११-१३-१७ ॥

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Uddhava, Brahmā himself, who is born directly from the body of the Lord and who is the creator of all living entities within the material world, being the best of the demigods, seriously contemplated the question of his sons headed by Sanaka. The intelligence of Brahmā, however, was affected by his own activities of creation, and thus he could not discover the essential answer to this question. ॥ 11-13-18 ॥

भगवान के परम व्यक्तित्व ने कहा: मेरे प्रिय उद्धव, स्वयं ब्रह्मा, जो सीधे भगवान के शरीर से पैदा हुए हैं और जो भौतिक जगत के भीतर सभी जीवित प्राणियों के निर्माता हैं, देवताओं में सर्वश्रेष्ठ होने के नाते, उन्होंने इस प्रश्न पर गंभीरता से विचार किया। उसके पुत्रों का नेतृत्व सनक ने किया। हालाँकि, ब्रह्मा की बुद्धि, सृष्टि की उनकी अपनी गतिविधियों से प्रभावित थी, और इस प्रकार वह इस प्रश्न का आवश्यक उत्तर नहीं खोज सके। ॥ ११-१३-१८ ॥

Lord Brahmā desired to attain the answer to the question that was puzzling him, and thus he fixed his mind on Me, the Supreme Lord. At that time, in My form of Haṁsa, I became visible to Lord Brahmā. ॥ 11-13-19 ॥

भगवान ब्रह्मा उस प्रश्न का उत्तर पाना चाहते थे जो उन्हें परेशान कर रहा था, और इस प्रकार उन्होंने अपना मन मुझ परम भगवान पर केंद्रित कर दिया। उस समय, मैं हंस के रूप में भगवान ब्रह्मा को दिखाई देने लगा। ॥ ११-१३-१९ ॥

Thus seeing Me, the sages, placing Brahmā in the lead, came forward and worshiped My lotus feet. Then they frankly asked Me, “Who are You?” ॥ 11-13-20 ॥

इस प्रकार मुझे देखकर ऋषिगण, ब्रह्मा को आगे रखकर, आगे आए और मेरे चरणकमलों की पूजा की। तब उन्होंने मुझसे खुलकर पूछा, "तुम कौन हो?" ॥ ११-१३-२० ॥
