गोप्याददे त्वयि कृतागसि दाम तावद्या ते दशाश्रुकलिलाञ्जनसम्भ्रमाक्षम् । वक्त्रं निनीय भयभावनया स्थितस्यसा मां विमोहयति भीरपि यद्बिभेति ।। १-८-३१ ।।

My dear Kṛṣṇa, Yaśodā took up a rope to bind You when You committed an offense, and Your perturbed eyes overflooded with tears, which washed the mascara from Your eyes. And You were afraid, though fear personified is afraid of You. This sight is bewildering to me. ।। 1-8-31 ।।

english translation

हे कृष्ण, जब आपने कोई अपराध किया था, तब यशोदा ने जैसे ही आपको बाँधने के लिए रस्सी उठाई, तो आपकी व्याकुल आँखें अश्रुओं से डबडबा आईं, जिससे आपकी आँखों का काजल धुल गया। यद्यपि आपसे साक्षात् काल भी भयभीत रहता है, फिर भी आप भयभीत हुए। यह दृश्य मुझे मोहग्रस्त करनेवाला है। ।। १-८-३१ ।।

केचिदाहुरजं जातं पुण्यश्लोकस्य कीर्तये । यदोः प्रियस्यान्ववाये मलयस्येव चन्दनम् ।। १-८-३२ ।।

Some say that the Unborn is born for the glorification of pious kings, and others say that He is born to please King Yadu, one of Your dearest devotees. You appear in his family as sandalwood appears in the Malaya hills. ।। 1-8-32 ।।

english translation

कुछ कहते हैं कि अजन्मा का जन्म पुण्यात्मा राजाओं की कीर्तिका विस्तार करने के लिए हुआ है और कुछ कहते हैं कि आप अपने परम भक्त राजा यदु को प्रसन्न करने के लिए जन्मे हैं। आप उसके कुल में उसी प्रकार प्रकट हुए हैं, जिस प्रकार मलय पर्वत में चन्दन होता है। ।। १-८-३२ ।।

अपरे वसुदेवस्य देवक्यां याचितोऽभ्यगात् । अजस्त्वमस्य क्षेमाय वधाय च सुरद्विषाम् ।। १-८-३३ ।।

Others say that since both Vasudeva and Devakī prayed for You, You have taken Your birth as their son. Undoubtedly You are unborn, yet You take Your birth for their welfare and to kill those who are envious of the demigods. ।। 1-8-33 ।।

अन्य लोग कहते हैं कि चूँकि वसुदेव तथा देवकी दोनों ने आपके लिए प्रार्थना की थी, अतएव आप उनके पुत्र-रूप में जन्मे हैं। निस्सन्देह, आप अजन्मा हैं, फिर भी आप देवताओं का कल्याण करने तथा उनसे ईर्ष्या करनेवाले असुरों को मारने के लिए जन्म स्वीकार करते हैं। ।। १-८-३३ ।।

Others say that the world, being overburdened like a boat at sea, is much aggrieved, and that Brahmā, who is Your son, prayed for You, and so You have appeared to diminish the trouble. ।। 1-8-34 ।।

कुछ कहते हैं कि जब यह संसार, भार से बोझिल समुद्री नाव की भाँति, अत्यधिक पीडि़त हो उठा तथा आपके पुत्र ब्रह्मा ने प्रार्थना की, तो आप कष्ट का शमन करने के लिए अवतरित हुए हैं। ।। १-८-३४ ।।

भवेऽस्मिन् क्लिश्यमानानामविद्याकामकर्मभिः । श्रवणस्मरणार्हाणि करिष्यन्निति केचन ।। १-८-३५ ।।

And yet others say that You appeared for the sake of rejuvenating the devotional service of hearing, remembering, worshiping and so on in order that the conditioned souls suffering from material pangs might take advantage and gain liberation. ।। 1-8-35 ।।

तथा कुछ कहते हैं कि आप श्रवण, स्मरण, पूजन आदि की भक्ति को जागृत करने के लिए प्रकट हुए हैं, जिससे भौतिक कष्टों को भोगनेवाले बद्धजीव इसका लाभ उठाकर मुक्ति प्राप्त कर सकें। ।। १-८-३५ ।।
