एष किं निभृताशेषकरणो मीलितेक्षणः । मृषासमाधिराहोस्वित्किं नु स्यात्क्षत्रबन्धुभिः ।। १-१८-३१ ।।

sanskrit

Upon returning, he began to contemplate and argue within himself whether the sage had actually been in meditation, with senses concentrated and eyes closed, or whether he had just been feigning trance just to avoid receiving a lower kṣatriya. ।। 1-18-31 ।।

english translation

लौटने पर वे सोचने लगे तथा मन ही मन तर्क करने लगे कि क्या मुनि इन्द्रियों को एकाग्र करके तथा आँखें बन्द किये सचमुच समाधि में थे, अथवा वे निम्न क्षत्रिय का सत्कार करने से बचने के लिए समाधि का स्वाँग रचा रहे थे? ।। १-१८-३१ ।।

तस्य पुत्रोऽतितेजस्वी विहरन् बालकोऽर्भकैः । राज्ञाघं प्रापितं तातं श्रुत्वा तत्रेदमब्रवीत् ।। १-१८-३२ ।।

sanskrit

The sage had a son who was very powerful, being a brāhmaṇa’s son. While he was playing with inexperienced boys, he heard of his father’s distress, which was occasioned by the King. Then and there the boy spoke as follows. ।। 1-18-32 ।।

english translation

उस मुनि का एक पुत्र था, जो ब्राह्मण-पुत्र होने के कारण अत्यन्त शक्तिमान था। जब वह अनुभवहीन बालकों के साथ खेल रहा था, तभी उसने अपने पिता की विपत्ति सुनी, जो राजा द्वारा लाई गई थी। वह बालक वहीं पर इस प्रकार बोला। ।। १-१८-३२ ।।

अहो अधर्मः पालानां पीव्नां बलिभुजामिव । स्वामिन्यघं यद्दासानां द्वारपानां शुनामिव ।। १-१८-३३ ।।

[The brāhmaṇa’s son, Śṛṅgi, said:] O just look at the sins of the rulers who, like crows and watchdogs at the door, perpetrate sins against their masters, contrary to the principles governing servants. ।। 1-18-33 ।।

english translation

[ब्राह्मण बालक शृंगी ने कहा:] अरे! शासकों के पापों को तो देखो, जो अधिशासी-दास सिद्धान्तों के विरुद्ध, कौवों तथा द्वार के रखवाले कुत्तों की तरह अपने स्वामियों पर पाप ढाते हैं। ।। १-१८-३३ ।।

The descendants of the kingly orders are definitely designated as watchdogs, and they must keep themselves at the door. On what grounds can dogs enter the house and claim to dine with the master on the same plate? ।। 1-18-34 ।।

राजाओं की सन्तानें निश्चित रूप से द्वाररक्षक कुत्ते नियुक्त हुई हैं और उन्हें द्वार पर ही रहना चाहिए। तो किस आधार पर ये कुत्ते घर में घुसकर अपने स्वामी की ही थाली में खाने का दावा करते हैं? ।। १-१८-३४ ।।

कृष्णे गते भगवति शास्तर्युत्पथगामिनाम् । तद्भिन्नसेतूनद्याहं शास्मि पश्यत मे बलम् ।। १-१८-३५ ।।

After the departure of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Personality of Godhead and supreme ruler of everyone, these upstarts have flourished, our protector being gone. Therefore I myself shall take up this matter and punish them. Just witness my power. ।। 1-18-35 ।।

english translation

सबों के परम शासक भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण के प्रस्थान के पश्चात्, हमारे रक्षक तो चले गये, लेकिन ये उपद्रवी फल-फूल रहे हैं। अतएव इस मामले को मैं अपने हाथ में लेकर उन्हें दण्ड दूँगा। अब मेरे पराक्रम को देखो। ।। १-१८-३५ ।।
