तद्वै धनुस्त इषवः स रथो हयास्तेसोऽहं रथी नृपतयो यत आनमन्ति । सर्वं क्षणेन तदभूदसदीशरिक्तंभस्मन् हुतं कुहकराद्धमिवोप्तमूष्याम् ।। १-१५-२१ ।।

sanskrit

I have the very same Gāṇḍīva bow, the same arrows, the same chariot drawn by the same horses, and I use them as the same Arjuna to whom all the kings offered their due respects. But in the absence of Lord Kṛṣṇa, all of them, at a moment’s notice, have become null and void. It is exactly like offering clarified butter on ashes, accumulating money with a magic wand or sowing seeds on barren land. ।। 1-15-21 ।।

english translation

मेरे पास वही गाण्डीव धनुष है, वे ही तीर हैं, उन्हीं घोड़ों के द्वारा खींचा जानेवाला वही रथ है और उन्हें इस्तेमाल करनेवाला मैं वही अर्जुन हूँ, जिसके सामने सारे राजा सिर झुकाया करते थे। किन्तु भगवान् कृष्ण की अनुपस्थिति में वे सब एक ही क्षण में शून्य हो गये हैं। यह वैसा ही है जैसे राख में घी की आहूति डालना, जादू की छड़ी से धन एकत्र करना या बंजर भूमि में बीज बोना। ।। १-१५-२१ ।।

राजंस्त्वयानुपृष्टानां सुहृदां नः सुहृत्पुरे । विप्रशापविमूढानां निघ्नतां मुष्टिभिर्मिथः ।। १-१५-२२ ।।

O King, since you have asked me about our friends and relatives in the city of Dvārakā, I will inform you that all of them were cursed by the brāhmaṇas, and as a result they all became intoxicated with wine made of putrefied rice and fought among themselves with sticks, not even recognizing one another. Now all but four or five of them are dead and gone. ।। 1-15-(22-23) ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, चूँकि आपने द्वारका नगरी के हमारे मित्रों तथा सम्बन्धियों के विषय में पूछा है, अतएव मैं आपको सूचित कर रहा हूँ कि वे सब ब्राह्मणों द्वारा शापित होकर, सड़े हुए चावलों से बनी शराब पीकर उन्मत्त हो उठे और एक-दूसरे को न पहचानने के कारण लाठियाँ लेकर परस्पर लडऩे लगे। अब केवल चार-पाँच को छोडक़र शेष सभी मर चुके हैं। ।। १-१५-(२२-२३) ।।

Factually this is all due to the supreme will of the Lord, the Personality of Godhead. Sometimes people kill one another, and at other times they protect one another. ।। 1-15-24 ।।

वास्तव में यह सब भगवान् की इच्छा के फलस्वरूप है कि कभी-कभी लोग एक दूसरे को मार डालते हैं और कभी एक दूसरे की रक्षा करते हैं। ।। १-१५-२४ ।।

O King, as in the ocean the bigger and stronger aquatics swallow up the smaller and weaker ones, so also the Supreme Personality of Godhead, to lighten the burden of the earth, has engaged the stronger Yadu to kill the weaker, and the bigger Yadu to kill the smaller. ।। 1-15-(25-26) ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, जिस तरह समुद्र में बड़े तथा बलशाली जलचर, छोटे-मोटे तथा निर्बल जलचरों को निगल जाते हैं, उसी तरह पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् ने भी धरती का भार हलका करने के लिए, निर्बल यदु को मारने के लिए बलशाली यदु को और छोटे यदु को मारने के लिए बड़े यदु को भिड़ा दिया है। ।। १-१५-(२५-२६) ।।
